I'm new here but definitely not new to being overweight. I'm really good at starting diets and never sticking to them and I'd really appreciate some support, help and advice. I've just been diagnosed with Impaired Glucose Tolerance and I desperately need to lose weight, exercise more and do what it takes to stop my IGT turning into diabetes.
I like the website, there's lots of good ideas and suggestions but I'd like to hear other people's experiences especially about how they manage to keep going.

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.
We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

Only you can decide how you want things to change but I reckon a lifestyle change that is for good and ever beats any dietbinto a cocked hat.
I presume you are thinking about getting rid of sugar from your food. Will you go cold turkey or will you have to wean yourself off the white stuff? Have lots of plans for cooking healthy meals and stick to them.
Have an adventure with food and make it your friend not your enemy.
It is everywhere but it doesn't have to be in your body-you choose that.
My mantra is that if it isn't good for me it doesn't do in my body. This is a positive mindset, not a denial one.
Get started, every little thing you do will help
Hi good to meet you. Take the word 'diet' out of your vocabulary and replace it with 'healthy eating' and that's a good start. Diets only work if you stay on them for life, but healthy eating is sustainable.
Grumblebee that's scary when you realise Diabetes is a risk to you....
I would recommend reading Dr. Michael Mosley's book 'The 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet'. Your local library may have a copy you could borrow. It's written specifically for people like you, who need to reverse a tendency to high blood sugars. I've read the book, it's very inspirational! Lots of factual stuff but presented in a way that's easy to read, and there is proof out there that even people who have Diabetes can reverse it, with his diet and a good exercise regime. Personally, I found the 8 week target too rigid for me but it's still a good book for dipping into for ideas, if you hit a low patch.
As for not sticking to diets, I think you have to get your head around the idea that you are not just dieting but changing your lifestyle for good. Believe me, I never thought I would achieve my objectives but I got so fed up with feeling (and looking!) like a tub of lard that I got 'tunnel vision', and even on the bad days when I craved sweet things, found some inner reserves, with the help of this forum, and kept focussing on my dream of being slim and healthy. You can do this! Good luck on your weight loss journey, and keep posting/reading other posts.
