week 5
I'm sure the scales won't be so bad! It's about stopping and starting as you mean to go on tomorrow I'm sure a lot of people have indulged or over-indulged today, but tomorrow is a new day!
I've over indulged today on chocolate too, I knew it was going to happen and it did, and that's ok it's just for one day and tomorrow I return to healthy eating.
So be kind and gentle to yourself, and move onwards
Don't be too hard on yourself. It's one day. Most of us, me included woke determined not to slip, but most of us did. It's one day. Don't panic. Tomorrow's another day and we get back into it. Just to let you know, as I feel the need to confess, I started well this morning. But, as my hubby was coming home from a three day business stopover decided to make him some hot cross buns. He's sugar intolerant so I thought it was ok to have one too. I counted up the calaries, 180 per bun. I had to try them of course, hot out of the oven. Gorgious. The remainder of the day went ok ish. Then he came home. We both had a bun, then dinner, then he presented me with my alternative Easter egg, three bars of chocolate! Of course I ate one, don't even ask the calaries! So I'm sure you did no worse than loads of us, just wake up tomorrow determine to get back on the case of loosing weight, I'm determined to and have disposed of the other two bars!!
That's nothing! I celebrated Good Friday with a four-pack of hot cross buns, although sharing with my wife meant that I only ate two buns. Worse, I also picked up some butter croissants at the same time, making for a very indulgent breakfast. I made up for this excessive carbohydrate by eating sensible low carb lunch and dinner so that weight actually dropped slightly by Saturday morning.
Easter Sunday began with a low carb breakfast of egg fried in butter with dry cured bacon and a cherry tomato. Lunch was a traditional roast chicken with gravy and all the usual fresh vegetables, followed by cheeses and finished with fresh berries and cream. For dinner, I made a hearty fresh vegetable soup followed by berries and cream.
Even though the weekend's meals were mostly what suits my particular carbohydrate intolerance, I still expect to be a little heavier on Monday morning, because even the healthiest foods can put on weight if I eat enough of them. I know from past experience that any temporary increase will soon be lost, so I don't to need to deprive myself at festive celebrations.
Of course, what suits me may not be exactly the right answer for someone else. We all need to put a little effort into finding what is best for us, weighing up all sources of information and letting our doctors know what we are doing in case they need to reduce any medicines.
Are you on the Atkins diet?
Not exactly Atkins, nor even the modified Atkins. I eat mostly unprocessed real foods, perhaps best described as LCHF (low carb, high fat, moderate protein), with irregular intermittent fasts. This keeps my blood glucose low and stable much better than the calorie-restricted low fat diet ever did. It's pretty much like the diet I grew up eating over 50 years ago, before I put on weight and developed type two diabetes due to over-consuming the wrong foods (and drinks!).. I couldn't go back completely to that traditional diet, because the damage caused by diabetes means I can no longer tolerate more than minimal amounts of potatoes, rice and pasta. Sugary foods, cakes and biscuits are definitely off my menu, except as very rare treats in small quantities.
