I am unhappy with my body and want to lose weight

I am rather short with stubby legs and a long torso. I hate the way my legs look as they curve outwards and front on they look so disproportioned. I have been insecure about my legs for as long as I can remember and I want them to be skinny. The only problem is that when I come to losing weight I lack a lot of motivation and discipline. I always tell myself I'll start eating no sugar and cut down on carbs and it lasts for about a day and I'm back to my filthy eating habits. I am so unhappy with my body and I just want to have skinny legs and a small stomach. What advice/tips can you give me to be motivated to actually stick to a healthy diet and maintain a good workout schedule? Please help, I am desperate.

Hi and welcome Shayna :)

You're just the same as the rest of us, hypercritical of the way you look :)

We all of us have the desire to change parts of our body, that we feel are absolutely horrendous! Short, fat legs, cankles, big belly, chunky arms, muffin top, double chin...........the list is endless! The truth is, that we see ourselves through distorted glasses and these things mean little, if anything, to anyone else. Our aim should be to get as fit and healthy as we can and leave perfection to the airbrushed models :)

Take a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread.

Look at the Topics section beneath that, for posts that could answer any questions you may have. Consider joining any, or all, of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

Join us for the Monday Group weigh-in. If you follow, Zest and myself, you'll be notified when we post the threads. The latest weigh-in thread can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we exchange ideas and get our daily dose of motivation and inspiration.

Wishing you all the very best, as you start your journey to health and happiness :)

Hello there, Welcome to the forum. :-)

You have come to the right place to get help and support. Everyone here is very supportive and friendly, but more importantly we are all in the same boat! Moreless is right when she says that no-one else worries about our particular body shape, but it is hard to remember this! Most other people are too wrapped up in their own insecurities, even the ones who seem confident on the outside. We're all human!

Try to focus on eating healthy foods that you enjoy, and start by making small changes. If you look around on the forum here you will find a pinned recipe section for ideas. or you could look here:

I wish you all the best on your weight loss journey! :-) x

You have had some wonderful advice here which is the distinctive feature of this forum. The best advice I have had on here is to break the big goals down into smaller mini versions so that they don't overwhelm you and perhaps lead you to giving up. For example wanting to be healthier is smaller than I have to change my weigh of life. I want to lose 0.5 of a lb is smaller than I need to change myself. Soon all those little steps do make a difference and you feel happier. Good luck

Hello! :)

Welcome to the forum. There are loads of people that are in the same boat as you and I am sure there will be plenty of people that could tell you their stories about their bodies and what they don't like but I hope you will also listen to the people who will tell you about the successes too, because every day I come here and I read that it is possible to lose weight and change unhealthy eating habits not just for a few weeks (or a day) but for life. Take things one day at a time, don't be too harsh with yourself if you have a blip and mostly, enjoy healthy eating and exercise; it's easier to manage if you enjoy your journey. :) You'll make mistakes, so just accept that now. We all make mistakes and as this journey is so much about learning mistakes are good if you've learned from them. :)

I hope to see you posting and getting involved as that's the real key here, you make friends and this journey is less difficult because you know you have a support network 24/7, you know you're not in this alone and you have us cheering on your successes (and there will be successes too). Basically, we'll be here for the good and the bad. We all know what you're going through, believe me, because we've all been there. :)

Good luck, lovely! ♥

Hi Shaun do it as a change of lifestyle rather than a quick fix aiming to lose a pound or two a week and eventually it may reduce to a month. Calorie control will have the biggest impact at first and exercise helps later in my experience. I too was very unhappy about my appearance. When the weight comes off you definitely start feeling better about yourself. Don't beat yourself up about it, it's not easy and we are all only human. Just remember why you are doing it you are doing it for you.
