A big leap...

Hey so I've been putting weight on steadily for about 4 months now. I have a multitude of health problems and even though I've been overweight for years it's only now I'm noticing weight related illness. Sore bones, joints, breathless, sores, tiredness, bad skin. Mobility issues. I have zero motivation and need some thinspiration.

Hi and welcome, Claire :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi,

I joined this forum almost exactly a year ago now and, like you, was just getting to the stage where my size was really starting to affect my health. My life and, most importantly, my health have improved so much I hardly recognise myself. My blood pressure has gone down, blood sugar gone down, mobility and fitness improved, kidney function improved, swelling in my feet gone down, night cramps gone and the list goes on ..... Losing weight doesn't cure everything and life still has it's ups and downs but my goodness it's worth the effort. If you want motivation I reckon I'm proof that it's worth fighting for.

I started with the NHS 12 week plan and the NHS BMI calculator (you really can eat as much as they suggest and still lose as much weight as on more severe diets). I also made small changes every week and just kept them all going so a healthy lifestyle crept up on me over time and I didn't have to change overnight.

Just make a start in some small way and you'll be so glad that you did.

Good luck x
