Thank you - a very big thank you!

I’m overwhelmed with the kindness and support shown to me and thank you to everyone for your lovely words, kind suggestions and helpful advice.

I really appreciate everything that’s been said, especially after reading the Plan I was directed to by TheAwfulToad, it’s me in a nutshell!

I have been a vegetarian for my whole life, even before I understood the concept of eating food I would refuse meat/fish so my diet has been primarily carbohydrates for 30+ years.

Due to my job, I’ll be spending the next 8 or so months on a boat at sea, I’ll have no control over the food available to me and as we only get supplies once every 4 weeks, fresh vegetables and fruit is a limited commodity. Despite these challenges, I will try to follow as much of the Plan as I can, and take onboard (excuse the pun) all of the principles which have lead me to my current state of being and will consequently lead me on to the next much more positive chapter of my life.

Your new name is much nicer :)

I do hope you can continue with the plan while you're afloat, although it does sound a bit challenging. Don't worry, it's completely compatible with a vegetarian way of eating, although it's possible the constraints on supplies may make it rather difficult. If you encounter any particular issues related to food availability, I'm sure someone here can offer advice. Tinned and frozen veg are fine - I assume there are available on board?

Wishing you all the best! You seem to be in a much more positive frame of mind now.

Good on ya! You've already taken a really positive step by joining this forum. Give yourself a big pat on the back and try and not think too hard about it all.

I know a couple of vegan low-carb skippers who manage with what the crew comes up with - it’s worth putting it down as a health requirement and getting a GP on board (not physically) to make it so. Your health is worth being a bit of a pain for the galley! Frozen veg, and lots of it, lentils, chick peas, eggs and cheese are your friends.

I’d love to hear how you get on. I was vegetarian for years but started eating meat again to help with weight loss. Once I’m maintaining I’d like meat to be a once-a-month thing again rather than every other day. Grateful for all help!
