welcome Paulaforever! and chin up! this can be done! I lost 16lbs (from US so I don't know what that is in stones but there it is). I then gained it back. bummer true but I have been away from the forum for a while. the only way I ever feel full is if I eat at really full meal and then some chocolate thrown in for good measure. I am not sure, but I see that when I eat really slowly, chew thoroughly and stop when my plate of good food is almost (not quite) empty I will feel full although it does take some time. I am trying to retrain myself into doing this as right now I just shovel food in. I just started this forum again so I can tell you what I do wrong for sure. I will say I am embarrassed by my size but I don't hate myself as much anymore. when I start the negative thinking, I just remember what I do right. I am a kind, smart, funny and caring woman that a lot of people love and how can they be so wrong! my BMI is obese as well if not worse (LOL!) but my weight is only one small piece of me. I want to get healthy for myself most of all. my knees hurt, my ankles and hips hurt and I know if I lose some weight I will feel terrific! please please do not feel bad or dislike yourself as it affects all parts of your life. I promise this can be done and if you need any advice or recipes or just need to vent .. post! we can and will help I promise!

Hi Paulaforever,

I am a food addict and have had the same issue for years. My weight has been up and down, diet after diet. I am that typical yo-yo dieter.

I am in week 1 of the NHS 12 week plan and so far its been great and it does seem to make me feel full, being based on calories helps as when I get an urge to eat (nibble) I will try to choose healthy such as an apple or rice cakes.

I have found many diets that restrict choices have been my down falI, I need to eat a packet of crisps and comforting carbs like bread. On this plan you can. I also drink huge amounts of water before and after meals this helps with the craving for fullness. Healthy protein has been my best friend so far and gives fullness without all the not so good effects of naughty carbs lol.

Planning your meals is the key to success, although tedious and can be long winded it's worth it. I plan my weeks menu, followed by the shopping list on a Friday before I shop the next morning. I incorporate foods that the whole family will enjoy with various, vegetarian, red meat, white meat and fish dishes. Nearly all the recipes are for 4 and there's three of us so what is left gets frozen for a quick no cook day sometime later.

The food choice is really good. I have a something new everyday since Monday, I'll try as many different things as possible to find our favourites. There's a lot that can be made in advance to save time. There is only myself eating the breakfasts and lunches so I make half the recipe and have another portion for another day, same goes for the lunches.

I hope you find some of this helpful.

I am a Food Addict. I am Overweight, I won't be for much longer X

You have had some fantastic replies already. I would say, the first step to feeling more positive would be making a start on making things better. I have been obese all of my life until a few weeks ago when I lost the tag but that didn't make me a bad person when I was bigger and I have never lost hope that things would change for me one day; and now it has.

I couldn't face making too many changes at once, so I made one little change every week and just kept them all going so they built up to a whole new healthy lifestyle. A daily walk, if it's only for a few minutes will make you feel better and also help you to get into the habit of being more active. The walks can get longer as the weight melts away. Getting rid of temptation from the house was my first step (that took a week), then trying to eat more healthily (working on getting 5 fruit and veg a day and totally cutting added sugar out of my diet) - another week, then calorie counting and weighing food to get the portion sizes under control (that took 3 whole weeks!) and finally I started looking at finding exercises that I could try.

Doing everything all at once was just impossible for me, but this worked. It's not the weight that matters, but how much healthier you can become and the little changes seem like nothing much when you do them and then, it may take a few weeks, the weight starts to fall and you feel better and clothes start to become loose so you have to buy new clothes and you feel fitter ...... Just keep trying and don't beat yourself up; it took me many years to find the right combination so keep on trying and try to work on thinking in a positive way about yourself because no matter what your weight, you are worth making the effort for x

Hi Paula,

You are one step away from fitness. Focus on fitness and health.. not just on weight.

The extra weight / fat is just 'POTENTIAL ENERGY'... you just got to covert the potential energy into KINETIC ENERGY.

Find a million things to do which you like to do apart from food.. Please divert your mind into other stuff.

Learn something online.. music, .. reading.. go into nature...

A bored mind will head to junk food..

So push your mind into different directions.

Love yourself, accept yourself but also challenge yourself.

Begin your journey step by step... but keep walking.

all the best !
