Post Valentines Day....

So how did it work for everyone? We had planned a while back to make ourselves a special three course meal to enjoy at home. We both enjoy cooking, and I do resent the commercialisation of it all (but we did exchange cards and I received a wonderful bouquet!)

Our menu was:

Tempura prawns with a chilli mayonnaise

Sirloin steak with salad leaves and a vinaigrette dressing, Dauphinoise potatoes

Tart au citron with some raspberries and a little double cream

A bottle of prosecco between us.

Very nice too! I didn't realise how easy it was to make tempura batter (we used some prosecco instead of beer to make it). The Dauphinoise potatoes were from M&S - but only 297 calories for half of the dish, which considering how rich and creamy it was, I found totally surprising.

We bought the tart au citron ready-made from M&S - and bought two individual slices. They were very calorific (325 calories) but we had just a couple tablespoons of double cream.

I estimate about 2,500 calories in total yesterday - considering we ate what we wanted and enjoyed, that wasn't bad! For me that was about 1,000 calories over maintenance. Only had a bowl of soup for lunch (no bread) and a boiled egg for breakfast.

Well that's that for another year! Hope everyone enjoyed their day....

By the way, the picture is one from the Internet, I was too busy enjoying our romantic meal to take a picture!

Sounds wonderful Pineapple. we also had a stay at home three course meal.

Smoked salmon, green salad and lemon.

Baked pork steak with onions, mushroom, red pepper and corn on the cob (no butter) followed by a fresh fruit salad. Didn't even open the bottle of champagne that was in the fridge as I knew once opened it had to be drunk.

Didn't work out the calories properly but only about 2 tsp oil as I very slowly fried/steamed the onions/mushrooms.

Watched a good film and it felt like heaven. What lucky people we are.

Tempura prawns sound good.

Sounds very healthy!!! Fresh fruit salad! Woweeee, that is good!

I think some days you have to not worry too much about the calories, but I think you were much more virtuous! But it's the ambience and the company rather than the food consumed...

Sorry, we were very naughty and went to the Toby Carvery and had a huge roast dinner and a dessert. I put on 3 lb overnight but 1 lb of it has already gone and we're back to eating sensibly now.

Actually, a carvery can be ok.... I think the problem for many is the quantity they are tempted to pile onto their plate! Oh, and the dessert :-) BUT it was Valentines Day and nice to have a meal out I imagine? No pots to wash!

That 3lb will soon be gone if you just get back on track...
