In the words of James Brown... "I feel good"

Thought I'd share a side effect of my journey here.

Due to knocking back my daily calorie intake I have had to seriously curtail my volume of alcohol intake. The upside of that is that I have slept soundly now (except for a few lapse days) almost every single night of the 5 weeks that I've been doing this.

To put it into perspective, that is probably more good nights than the last 15 years in total. It wasn't just alcohol as I used to have a high pressured job (that's changed as I'm now a self-employed sparky) but alcohol was the last remaining obstacle.

I've been up a couple of hours, have cleared most of my paper work, walked and fed the dogs and now to continue decorating. Don't wonder about the time of day, as I've always woken up early but without the good sleep in between.

Have a great day everyone and power to your fork hand :)

Alcohol really does affect sleep quality for the worse. I was drinking too much in the evening to feel relaxed but in the long term it has the opposite effect! Glad you're enjoying the positive sides.

How brilliant that you are seeing real benefits. Not sleeping can be really annoying so you must be proper chilled now. Well done

I did dry January (except 1 night when i had 2 cocktails) and still haven't had any yet and don't want any yet either... I've also noticed I sleep a lot better too.

Hope the good sleep continues for you x

Another positive post for a Sunday morning, great stuff it's what makes this forum so supportive and inspiring. I'm having a bit of a struggle with sleeping at the moment and can't blame drinking! It will pass I'm sure but I find tiredness can lead to unhealthy eating choices.

I'm with you. They both start blurring the lines one way or another. I could have gone on about how this is improving my positivity which in turn is helping me take control of other aspects of my life but I would start sounding a bit too evangelical :)

I hope you sort the sleeping out.

Hi Ewillday, you have a good day too, your story great. My storysimilar except change alcohol for massive amounts of crisps, chips, bread, cakes. I start 5th week on plan Wed. I'm going thru withdraw symptoms, slight headache, fatigue, keep waking up at night, self motivation low, hoping it will return to normal, great to hear you are getting on top of things :)

Thanks Ary88 and good on you for getting this far and for keeping on going when you're feeling like you are.

One thing I've found, is that though I'm eating less than I did, I'm enjoying my food more. I think a lot more about what I'm going to have (instead of defaulting to crunchy nut cornflakes with loads of milk, loads of double or extra thick cream plus loads of sugar). I think how I'm going to make that food flavourful, just smaller portions.

Be proud of what you've achieved so far.

Yes, smaller portions is the answer(lve really had to work on portions, improving, makes me smile, how ridiculous l have been, hope decorating goes like bliss, I've got some (some!) to do, its driving me mad..let you know when I start the preparation, I like it really :)

The "demon drink" is certainly such a good description I drank far too much to get through some very stressful things with our son a few years ago It was a great feeling after a few glasses of wine to switch off but the side effects were rotten To be rid of it is fantastic I still have the odd drink but I feel so much healthier and happier

I'm so glad you feel like that too and are getting great nights sleep it makes such a difference Great too that you are now self employed and not so stressed

Wishing you a very happy week ahead 👍🏻
