Week 3: so another week and no weight... - Weight Loss Support
Week 3
Hi jayny61,
Have you started recording your eating, because sometimes we miss small stuffs
Don't get stressed if you have not gained, sure you will rock
Regards
Jeya
You're bothering because you care about yourself! There are loads of knowledgeable peeps on here that will give you good advice. I'm a newbie, so all I can say is 'Please don't give up, give it more time'...xx
Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and what you are eating? maybe we can offer you some advice and you can start to see some progress. Don't give up Jayney61. You're bothering because you want to be healthier and slimmer, and we know you can do it, because we are all in the same boat.
I am disabled, 61 years old, live on my own. I usually have boiled egg and 1 slice of wholemeal toast with scrapping of butter, Home made soup, either leek n potato or vegetable and apple or yogurt and main meal fish and roasted vegetables, or fish salad, or home made stew, curry, chilli with brown rice, it varies. I drink a lot of water, and I like my cups of tea with skim milk. I am a fussy eater and I not like a lot of things that are good for you. Last week I managed to freeze a ton of vegetables and put them into small containers, I have one of them roasted per day now, plus a bowl of my home made soup at midday. I am not used to eating so much.
Are you weighing vegetables etc everything needs to be weighed and measured
If your disabled and older your probably not burning a lot calories
Would you mind saying your weight height sex I could look into proper calculators for weightloss it's not just seeing NHS one going by that there's more to it esp as we age
Are you in medication
How much do you move a week like can you walk far etc
Do you exercise
If you want to message me I can look up the correct calories etc
Don't forget veg lots of it will have a good few calories
That sounds really healthy Janey61. Hang on in there. You will feel the health benefits even if it takes a while to see any weight loss. Don't give up!
Are you religiously weighing measuring everything all good and drinks I find it's easy to slip extras in not count them
Are you eating enough or too much
What's you stats ?
I keep all what I eat on my fitbit blaze and am religious on what I eat and probably over estimate the amounts to be on the safe side I am managing 1400 cals per day, thank you for replying, I appreciate it
Over estimating can lead to under eating hence your body's atm maybe clinging into fats incase your starving yourself ?
Hello Jayney61
I'm so sorry you are feeling despondent 😕 Are you sure you are eating 1400 calories? It doesn't sound like it, I eat more than that and think maybe you are not eating enough 😕 Also, it depends how much weight you need to lose, and how active you are. I know you mention a disability but could you increase your movement somehow?
Have a look at Caz28 journey, she has battled away to slowly lose weight. Also Pineapple27 who has increased her activity despite a disability 😊
Best wishes
Anna
Hi Janey61. I have been losing weight for 5 years now. I started at 14 stone (more than your current weight)
Lost 4.5 stone in total. I started at 1,600 calories, reducing overtime to what I eat now (1100). I can tell you, 1100 really ISN'T much - only achievable by cutting out every single goodie I ever enjoyed.
I am very short (4ft 9") and physically disabled. I use a wheelchair outside of the house and spend much time inside the house sat on my bottom!
It did take a huge effort to lose the weight, it wasn't easy. I had good and bad times (including caring for my terminally ill mother in law who came to live with us for over a year). But I just kept on going.
I do an hour os stretches and pilates every day (have to get up earlier to do it), and that really helps me with my pain (I get pain in my spine, neck, shoulders, one hip, and my ankles).
Do you have any support? For example, a partner, a friend, a son or daughter? If you are finding it a struggle, it's good to have someone close who you can turn to.
You may find it useful to read my blog (flidfit.com) - I haven't up-dated it for a while. Or refer to this message I posted a while back about how I had managed to lose my weight?

You'll see from my graph that it wasn't straight forward.
Many of us have additional barriers to overcome to our weight loss. But sadly the reality is, for those of us who are shorter, older, less mobile, disabled..... we have to eat much less than others!
You should probably eat 1300 if your disabled tbh I was once 16 stone ate 1500 and did lots exercise never ate exercise calories
You don't need eat large quanties of healthy foods all the time have a treat it won't hurt and won't harm weightloss
I could t eat all 100% healthy I'd have bad ibs attacks as fruit veg kills my ibs
I'll have crisps or a snack bar otherwise you'll feel deprived
I've never eaten a lot I got fat as high cal foods sadly
Hi Jayney61 , sorry you're feeling a bit frustrated with your efforts not producing results. I used this BMI calculator
bestbmicalculator.com/calcu...
It sometimes takes a bit of trial and error with the amount of calories to find what works for you, we are all different.
Does your disability allow you to walk? if so, I can highly recommend a 30 minute walk each day or in bad weather Lesley Sansones walks on you tube that you can do indoors.
If you keep trying, you will lose weight! Good luck!
Thank you for replying, I have very painful joints, but, despite this I do make myself move as much as I can, I will check out the link, thanks
The other advice I would give is to weigh absolutely EVERYTHING... whether it's healthy or not. I used to eat about 100-120g of rice or pasta (dried weight). I now always weigh it out. I eat just 50g - which is less than a recommended portion - but enough for me.
Thinks like bread can do an awful lot of calorie damage - wholemeal or white - there really isn't a lot in bread that is good for you in terms of nutrition. And of course it's what goes onto the bread / toast. Butter, spread, etc. And then into it - if it is a sandwich.
A long, long time ago I more or less gave up bread altogether. I don't eat any on the Blood Sugar Diet (or pasta, potatoes, rice) and that has really helped my weight loss efforts. I usually have soup or salad for lunch and then some meat, proteins (eggs, cheese) and loats and lots of filling low calorie vegetables for dinner. I probably buy about 12 different vegetables a well - butternut squash, mushrooms, aubergine, spinach, mushrooms, celeriac, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots, swede, beetroot...... My plate is always very colourful!
I could never understand why I was so large when I ate so "healthily" but I now realise my portion sizes were a lot to blame!
