I stopped smoking six months ago and I have put about one and half stones on! I decided it was time to lose it especially as I am going on holiday in ten weeks and don't want to look like a fat pig next to my skinny friend on the beach. For the last ten days I have not eaten anything other than fruit and veg and low calorie meals i.e. 350 -400 calories in total and I have been keeping a record of my daily intake via the myfitnesspal app. I have been to the gym three times a week and have done spinning classes for 30 mins and a couple of step classes for 30 mins each. To cut a long story short I have not shed a single pound and I am totally confused. I have always been good at dieting but have never been on such a strict regime with zero loss. Can anyone give me any tips? I am 53 this month and probably going through menopause but surely 1300 calories a day should result in some weight loss.

That is an impressive regime, I am sure you will see some weight loss soon, maybe in a few days time the scales will tell a different story. It could be that your body hasn't quite caught up with your new habits.

You should be able to lose 1-2lb a week. I don't know what your bmi would be, have you checked it? It gives you the right calorific range for your statistics:

nhs.uk/Livewell/loseweight/...

Be careful about eating too few calories as it can have the effect of making your body go into famine mode and start hoarding fat instead of shedding it.

As long as there isn't any underlying medical reason you should see a weight loss soon I would have thought!

Congratulations on quitting smoking. That is a big battle to win. Now you can take on anything👏👏

Hi and welcome wendywoo66

Hope you have looked at the BMI calculator and completed it to get your BMI and the calorie range that you should be eating?

You most probably not eating enough calories - sounds daft I know but true ;)

Well done you on giving up the cigs - are you using and alternatives or have you gone cold turkey? I also gave up the cigs about 6 months ago, it's darn hard - but we can do this :) I am using a vape at present, but hoping to get off that by the summer too :)

You are putting me to shame with all your exercise - I must try harder - well done you :)

Hi Wendy

I stopped smoking 17 months ago after 50 years and have put on 2 stone I look like an old frump. I also bought a Fitbit to get fit and lose weight. So any way I feel you have done fantastic 😀 . You go on holiday and feel proud on the beech as you have all summer to work on your weight. Your body is going through a lot with quitting as well. Take care and don't forget drink plenty of water.
