Help! I'm going to a friend's for lunch today and there will be a buffet. Have you any advice on what sort of food to avoid/ aim for? It's only day 2 of my new healthy eating plan and I'm trying to make new habits.
Thanks

Hello Cavaco . I find buffet meals quite difficult If you are lucky there may be some sliced meats and salad or ham sandwiches. I tend to avoid all pastry, perhaps have small amount of cheese, a couple of cocktail sausages, carrot sticks but be careful with dips and sugary things. You could do what MrNiceGuy suggested for NYE and take your own tray of sliced tomatoes, avocado, sliced meat ,cucumber, I thought that was an excellent idea . The friend might appreciate the extra items.
This might sound a bit strange, but rather than starting at one end of the table and working your way down, have a good look with your eyes first. You could help your host to put out the dishes or take lids off things and just get the measure of it before you choose.
Sailsalot is absolutely right . Look for food building blocks rather than processed foods. Load up your plate (pick the smallest available, it may be meant for dessert) with plain leaves, cooked meats etc. Good luck. Xx
Also, have a light breakfast and tea and this will keep your daily intake on track. Xx
That's a great idea - normally I would start at the beginning and keep piling on food until I got to the end. I'll take time to do some planning this time.
Thanks for the tips - the buffet was a success. I first surveyed the scene, then selected only salad and cold meat. I also selected far less than I usually would. Dessert was served in a separate room so to avoid temptation I didn't even go to have a look.
Hurrah.
