I'm on the IC taking ibuprofen for the second day in a row after pulling a muscle in my chest. I'm pretty confident I did this while dancing about doing overhead presses - not the smartest of moves! Today should have been my 159th 5K of 2016 but that's not going to happen and while I feel as if the pain is easing a bit I'm pretty sure I'll have to miss my Friday run as well There is no way I'm going to hit my step target this week that is for sure. Initially, I was in a panic - daft I know but last year a knee injury put me out of action for nine months and I gained the weight I'm now losing. But then last year I didn't have this forum. So yesterday I asked the lovely Zest for a 'healthy BMI' badge - to remind me I'm at a healthy weight and want to stay there. I'm also going to keep wearing my pedometer to show how sedentary I am when 'out of action'- yesterday I only clocked 1623 steps. I am NOT going to go off the rails - this is just a minor setback albeit at the worst time of the year
Keep Calm and carry on...: I'm on the IC... - Weight Loss Support
Keep Calm and carry on...
oh no! Poor you but well done on finding a solution and on your determination to maintain
Get well soon
I feel such a twit IndigoBlue61 - dancing with weights at my age is just pure dumb! At least I can feel an improvement today so hopefully on the mend.
I only use lightweight wrist weights and they force me to go slow and controlled - I don't know how you can go fast with weights!! 😳😳😳
They're only 2Kgs hand weights IndigoBlue61 wish I could run around with a heavy barbell over my head but don't think that is going to happen - does form a funny picture in my head though
Pulled chest muscles are so painful, ouch! poor you. Take care of yourself and remember weight loss is 80% down to food intake, once you are recovering, build your exercise back up gradually.
Thanks Caz28 going to make myself take it easy until I'm 100% hopefully by next Monday I'll be back running (might lay off the planks for a while). Trying to be extra vigilant with the food intake - resisted buying a box of medjool dates that my head was telling me would help soothe the pain
Hi Angusina,
Your 'healthy BMI' badge looks great!!! I'm so glad you decided to request one to keep you motivated and remind you that you've achieved so much, and you are at a healthy weight and you're intending to maintain that!
I am so sorry that you're in pain though, and I hope that you'll recover very soon, so you can get back to your activities.
Take it easy, and you will heal again - it just needs time and patience.
You take care, and have a wonderful week.
Lowcal
Thanks Zest I'm hoping for a recovery very soon - now that I can't run I'm itching to get out. Definitely making me reflect on how lucky I am to be able to exercise
Angusina my heart totally goes out to you! I've had a lesson in perspective today and realised it is actually fine to run with my cough, and my fear that it was stopping me doing any exercise has been overblown. So maybe your muscle pull might have a surprise outcome too. I strongly believe that the changes we've made to follow a healthier diet put us in a better position to recover. Rock on - dancing around doing overhead presses - respect! Take care and wishing you swift recovery. Maybe try a hot water bottle on the point that hurts Hope you feel more active asap
Hidden what's really got me gutted is the fact that the planks will have to be off the menu I reckon for a couple of weeks just when I'm getting a very very faint sign of a sixpack - as in a toned midriff ! I'm actually feeling better this afternoon than I did this morning so maybe my Friday run is on - fingers crossed. Dancing around like a loon while doing overhead presses is not to be recommended - trust me on that!
Well I did a super rainy parkrun the same week I was recovering from a cold. And 3 weeks in the cough still hasn't gone from that. So we can both sit in overexercising detention together... But honestly those muscles won't disappear. You've earned them. Just need a little patience til you can resume
And good luck for possibly running on friday
Sorry to hear about the pulled muscle Hidden , I can understand your initial panic about not exercising! I did something to my shoulder and neck a few weeks ago, so not been able to do much exercise either, was slightly concerned the weight would pile back on, but keeping to the healthy food habits seems to be working so far, it’s true that it is more about what you eat and drink. Suppose what might have helped is not being able to have any alcohol due to medication, no weekend drinkies! Been walking the dog a lot more than usual though, she is looking slimmer
Thanks Sailsalot I'm taking deep breaths and telling myself I'll be well soon and back on the road. Funny how last week I was dragging myself out for a run now I'm itching to get out. Like Caz28 says losing weight is 80% down to eating so I'm determined to keep track of my food intake. Resisted buying a packet of medjool dates today - my head was saying how much better I'd feel munching down on the scrummy morsels but I didn't listen and got out of the shop without them
