Well done for stopping the smoking.... and no doubt saving your life in the process.
Now you have to plan phase 2 in this battle to make the most of your life ahead. Take it slowly, one day at a time. Use some of the skills you learned when you were giving up the cigarettes; remove temptation (chuck out the cakes, crisps and biscuits); have alternatives (fruit & veg, fruit teas, soups) or diversions (busy activities) to hand. Use the support of this forum when you feel tempted or when you have had a bad day.
The mechanism is fairly straightforward; use an online calorie counter and keep track of your food and drink, keeping within a total to suit your height and level of activity (e.g. 1400 cals a day). Move about more; walking, hoovering, stair-climbing ...it all counts.
Good luck...and remind yourself, you are so worth it!
Hi rowlyh
When my husband had his heart attack we were referred to the heart support unit and a dietician took a group of us on a supermarket tour it was eye opening especially for "normal" portion sizes it also helped with healthy eating might be worth asking if you could be referred to a dietician
