I got weighed on sunday and was pleasantly surprised to find that I had lost two and three quarters. Unfortunately I wasn't in the mood for celebrating because our dog unexpectantly died only 12 hrs earlier and we were heart broken. I haven't been able to look or think about food since. Not a good way to lose weight. It's funny how grief can affect you. Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age, I know one thing dogs bring you so much happiness and enrich your life. This is our beautiful Girl Tilly. 2007-2016

I have a chocolate lab at the moment he is 6 and so laid back he's virtually chilled out all day every day. A little rescue Beagle/lab cross is his crazy friend here now.
My past 3 labs have left us, the first through old age but my other two, I lost one at 41/2 years through Lymphoma ( which is more likely in golden labs ) and the other chocolate one at 2 years he was born with hip displacia and kidney problems unfortunately the product of a bad breeder.
To be honest I have been more upset by the loss of my dogs than some relatives but maybe I am just weird. It's heartbreaking and I sympathise with you greatly. I spend so much time with my dogs, even tell them things I don't tell anyone else as I know they won't grass me up lol.πΆπΆπΆ
I know it won't help saying you can always have another one as like people they are all have their special personalities. When we lost our 2 I said I wasn't having anymore as I couldn't stand the grief, but the house seemed empty even with the kids here so we lasted 1 week and bought our chocolate one from a reputable breeder off the kennel club site then 6 months later went to the local dog rescue (bad mistake) as I found little Bailey there.
I hope you find comfort knowing you gave her a loving home something some children don't have with lots of love and affection. Best wishes Bev ππππΆπΆπΆ
Thank you for your lovely reply, I couldn't agree with you more. I have never felt grief like this. I take heart in the fact that last week we went out to the coast for a walk along the cliff tops and Tilly was in her element. we lost our other dog only four weeks ago but we had tilly to cheer us up. little did we know that she was dying also. she was 9 years old and the most mischevious dog you could wish to meet. I think that's why we loved her so much.
The house is empty now. rightly or wrongly I'm going to get another dog straight away. some people think it's to soon but the way I look at it as a compliment to the memory of all dogs. They are so special you can't live without them. each one is unique with it's own personality and this is so endearing and makes you love them all the more. I'm going to get a Greyhound from the Greyhound Retirement Trust. these dogs are exploited and then cast out when they are of no further use.
Once valued by kings and aristocrats alike they have fallen out of grace for some reason. They make the most wonderful family pet, gentle, faithful and not aggressive. I didn't realize how much out tilly meant to me until she left us. I will make sure that I never take our new dog for granted and that I cherish every experience I have. Keep in touch and let me know how your dogs are doing
We have a rescue lurcher (greyhound cross) who loves to cuddle on the sofa and sleeps 'in' my 14 year old daughter's bed. Getting another dog will never replace Tilly, but you obviously have a lot of love and a happy home to share with another lucky dog. x
I hope you find a lovely Grayhound to bring a little happiness back, obviously you care deeply for your animals and whichever one comes your way will have found a beautiful home with lots of love to give.
Tilly was blessed to have a lovely home to live her life and you will remember her every day. Let us know when Ε·ou find your adopted new family member. My Beaglador was rescued from an Irish puppy farm, he was 4 months when we got him and is so scared of loud noises but I couldn't ask for a more loving dog he has such a mischievous character.
My nephew adopted a grayhound/Lurcher cross who is huge, has so much energy but such a gentle creature.

Hi slim16 π I'm so sorry for your loss. We have a 4yr old chocolate labrador and nearly lost him this yr. It was touch and go we even had to go to the vets to say goodbye as they didn't think he was gonna pull through a 2nd stomach operation in 24hrs. They are a huge part of the family and it must be a heartbreaking time. Don't stress about the weight loss you can pick it up again when you feel ready. love to you and your family xx
Chocolate labs are my favorite breed of dog although they do seem to have their fair share of health problems. Tilly was a wonderful friend and had a wonderful personality. she the naughtiest dog we've ever owned. there wasn't a bad bone in her body our grandchildren played happily for hours on end with her and she loved every minute of it. Both Jane and I love dogs and it won't be long before we have another. Tilly was a one off no other dog will take her place. but thats no reason for us to stop loving them all.

They certainly are a gorgeous breed. Our dog Cody has had a tough short life so far he had hip dysplasia which he had a hip replacement at 1yr. An eye lift (I kid you not!!) due to too much facial skin. Skin problems and then this year he ate something he shouldn't of on a walk which got stuck in his stomach. Then after a successful removal his stomach flipped and had to be rushed in for a second op all with in 24hrs π€
Even through all this he has been such a friendly caring friend to my too boys ... who occasionally try to ride him like a pony π
Keep hold of all your memories of Tilly and when you feel ready I'm sure your home will be blessed with another dog for you to love πΆ
Thank you for your kind words, dogs certainly keep you on your toes. Tilly would anything and everything put in front of her she even had the Christmas turkey one year just before it was put on the table. It's true what you said, they are caring and put up with a lot.

What a lovely picture - she looks a happy girl. I wonder if perhaps she went so soon after your other dog - maybe they wanted to be together. It is a good thing that she had a lovely life with you, and you have those beautiful memories of her.
Really sorry for your loss, it is really heartbreaking they are one of your family. Be comforted that she had an amazing life and that's what you did for her. I've found you can love a new dog whilst still missing the one who has died, you just find more love.
My wife and I wondered about that, I'm certainly willing to give it a try. We are dog people and I can't bare the thought of not having one in my life. If I was selfish about it they not only bring the best out in people and I could write a book about the health benefits. I suppose `i took our Tilly for granted she was always there and never got cross with me no matter what mood I was in. I never thought about her leaving us. You can bet that I will try to cherish every moment I have with my next dog. Tilly has taught me a valuable lesson. Live for the day and take nothing for granted.
She is so beautiful, and I'm so sorry for your loss. I saw a Facebook post recently which said Heaven is a place where all the dogs you've ever loved will run to greet you.
I lost my little dog last week too, and just felt numb for a few days and no interest in food, we are all still adjusting to a quieter house and our other dogs is gradually settling down again .
I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope you find some comfort in your dog. Our other little dog died four weeks ago and we had Tilly to help us and I truly believe she did help Jane and I. Now the house is empty. I hate coming downstairs in the morning. we are just big soft lumps we humans.but I wouldn't change a thing. keep on loving dogs they can teach us so much.

I am sad for you - dogs have given me so much to laugh about however I have been feeling, and love so unconditionally. For Tilly to go so unexpectedly is a shock in itself, let alone going from two dogs to none so suddenly.
Only you can decide when the time is right to find a place for another dog. For me it was the right thing to adopt another within a few weeks, so I can understand your feelings. I hope that you find your new companion and can look forward to new memories together. Greyhounds do have a tough 'working' life, and they can also be the most wonderful companions.

I'm so sorry I could not read the post as my heart breaks for you. Over my long life I've We to have have many a dog some short lived and unexpected passing. Lost my last Chesapeake Bay Ret. from spinal caner replaced by another who is facing his second knee surgery. Hold close to your heart as I have always have, over my long life that they have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge free of earthly pain and await to see us tails wagging. You are in my thoughts at this time. We found our new boy right off and he fills us with such joy. I treasure all past to see once again. Prayers be with you.
I have only just seen your mail sending lots of love to you . I think that having had a dog and shared life with him/ her makes us a happier person , and the dog a happy dog

It's very true what you say, we can learn a lot from our pets. if only we would take the time to stop and take notice. Tilly was such a dog, happy and mischevious, she was great with people especially children.
