Hi, this is my first post in Weight loss, I'm "moonlighting" from Asthma UK. My doctor told me to put my steroids back up to 40mg today as my asthma has been worse, this is the 2nd time of going back up.
Steroids make me ravenously hungry, especially higher doses and last time I was on them for ages (you have to keep tapering down see, can't just stop) I put on loads of weight - face, upper abdomen mostly, I was like a barrel on two sticks.
I have no willpower and although I have found that drinking lots of twinings lemon and ginger tea with one sweetex has helped I need suggestions of snacks. I'm not too good with acidic fruit. It upsets my digestion and gives me heartburn, which aggravates my asthma. I am craving carbs, the very worst thing I believe?
Any ideas gratefully received!

Hi , Morrisons do some giant toffee popcorn flavour rice cakes that are only 39 calories each and popcorn isn't too calorie loaded , especially if you make your own . Good luck 😀 xx
I stopped the craving by eating porridge. Milk seems to suppress appetite. I found massive increase in protein and similar reduction in carbs very beneficial. The craving is gone and I discover hunger as when at regular mealtimes etc
The crumpets sound good though!! but we have to be sensible. Welcome to this wonderfully friendly forum, it's great fun.
Bananas and also oatcakes are great for surprising hunger pangs. Oatcakes 43 cals medium banana 80 cals!!
Hello,
The only foods you can realistically eat freely without taking in many calories are leafy green veg - lettuce, broccoli, cabbage etc. And then you must eat them either raw or boiled/steamed. If you add any fat to them the calories shoot up. On the plus side, they are quite filling if you eat a large portion, cooked.
Again the sugar free jellies are great larger super markets have several flavours a great treat after dinner and very few calories! I also like bovril i used to turn my nose up at it but now i love it and the chicken flavour is nice if you can find it.
I've lost just over 2 stone in the last 7 1/2 weeks
Certain foods can actually aggravate Asthma - my daughter gets wheezy if she has milk or ice-cream, although she can tolerate yogurt. You can try excluding one food type for a week or two to see if the Asthma is improved when you leave out particular foods.
I keep a jar of granola and sometimes have a tablespoon mixed with some dried fruit to snack on - seems to satisfy the need to nibble on something sweet, but is best weighed and counted in to the day's calorie allowance.
