New to this forum as I need to actually DO something about my weight rather than just procrastinating about it. Time is of the essence, as I'm sure the older I am becoming, the harder it will be to loose the weight!
I've read through lots of great posts on here and I look forward to "following" some of you and gleaning all your advice and tips.

I am in my second week on the weight-loss trail and though I have lost a few pounds I am still having treats. I think for me it is the only way I can make this a long term lifestyle change. I started the c25k back in June. It wasn't easy but I did complete this at the end of August. I can't run 5k but can run for thirty minutes. It is the first thing I have stuck with and completed for years. a real confidence booster. But the old gremlins very often sit on my shoulder I just have to keep knocking them off again lol
Hi Gin-Tonic , sorry for butting in but just catching up on reading some posts! Welcome, and well done you for wanting to change for the better. I have just started the couch to 5k as well, and my overall aim is to lose 5 stone. Couch to five k has been AMAZING in just getting me off my backside and out the door. It's only half an hour, it's not overwhelming and the plan is split into manageable weeks with time increases. I'm moving onto week three, and nervous but actually really excited. Never thought I'd be excited about exercise, especially not bloody running! But there we go! Wonders never cease! Good luck and hopefully see more of you around the forum
Welcome. A lot of us are in the same boat. You are absolutely right when you say the older you get, the harder it is . I have been struggling to lose weight for over 20 years, I lose a few lbs, go on holiday and the lbs go back on. So then I diet again, lose a few lbs, Christmas comes and the lbs go back on. I always start every year around the 12 stone mark and get as low 11st 1lb during the year but never lower than that. I should be 9 stone.
I was asked last year what my new year's resolution would be and I said "what it always is, to lose weight" and she said, "well if you have been failing for so long, why don't you just give up trying and accept the way you are.?"
And that's the trouble - I can never accept being overweight because I know I wasn't meant to be this way and it makes me very unhappy. Every time a special event comes along, I don't want to go because I know I won't be able to look good. In the past year I have totally withdrawn from the world. I used to love dancing - but I got to the point where I couldn't bear to see myself in the mirror.
I didn't really have the motivation or the commitment before, but now I have. Something has clicked. This time I will succeed and I will be 10st 4lbs by Christmas. I won't be starting new year at 12 stone!
So I hope you will join all of us on this fantastic journey to a New Us - and enjoy the journey!
Hi Cristalmund! we have a lot in common. My original start was the same as you, 20 years ago, 2stone loss then then 1stone over again, then the same up and down. Here at last I have made it to the Last Few Pounds Club and I have the same goal as you, 10st.4lbs. It is great because I feel now that I WILL make it by Christmas. I wish you luck, you can do it, you have done it before!
Thank you for your encouraging reply. As the original poster said, the older you get the harder it gets.
When I was 38 I decided to just watch what I ate, cut out anything fattening, and go the gym 4 times a week - and the weight just fell off with very little effort. I got down to 8st 7 lbs (then the doctor said I was too thin and needed to gain a bit). I relaxed a bit, thinking - "I've done it before, I can do it again." Ooooh - the dangers of complacency! The weight gradually crept back on. Just half a stone at first, and then I gained about half a stone a year until I hit 11 stone and ultimately 12 stone, and I have been yo yo dieting ever since. I bet there are a few people on here for whom that is a familiar story.
Now every pound I lose takes a really big effort. It's not like when I was 38 that's for sure! But that is the great thing about being on here, I know I am not alone and we can motivate and support each other.
Its me again. Thank you for reply. Are you doing exactly the same as when you first started? If you are not so energetic as then, maybe you will have to be trimming your extras as well as moderate exercise only, such as walking. I find cutting down to only 2 or 3 slices
of bread is a must for me now that I am older, also low fat and alcohol restriction as well as lowest sugar (only natural in fruit) has worked but we are all different it will be trial and error again. When you get to your goal again you can start the nice things....
Hiya, love your profile name!! You are doing something now, your head is in the right place, all ready for your weight loss. This is the crucial first step. Good luck and keep in touch. Xx
