Feeling hopeless

I've been trying to lose 2 stones for over a year now. I start off with good intentions but not eating plan or diet seems to stick. I feel like a failure, I don't like the way I look and I'm really down.

I need some help. I don't know what to try next

Hi, I totally sympathise. Healthy eating and dieting is all about mindset and its really hard to get in the zone!

I'm a total yoyo dieter depending on my mood and its so frustrating.

What diets have you tried? xx

I was really successful with slimming world about three years ago and lost a stone. I changed jobs and stopped going then put the weight back on, I've been back to slimming world on two occasions but haven't been able to stick to the regime, I tried the NHS 12 week plan and also healthy eating and exercise. The problem is when I relax in the evenings I want to eat constantly

I think it's really hard to go back to a diet you have previously done (even if you were successful before) as you know all the tips and tricks and its not new and exciting (that's if a diet can be exciting but you get what I mean!)

I think the pressure of being weighed helps though - what about weight watchers?

Evenings are my worst times too, I could be an angel all day but as soon as the kids are in bed Im tempted to sit down on the sofa and snack. My tips would be - don't sit down on the sofa, do something worthwhile which will also distract you - gardening, go for a walk, catch up on paperwork etc etc. Anything to distract you really!

My evenings are spent drinking cups of tea - I find the warmth of the tea helps me feel like I'm getting more than just a drink, I have mine with sweetener which also satisfies my sweet tooth as well. Other things are healthy snacks like fruit, or I discovered mini twister ice creams are only 45 calories so one of those feels like a treat but is less calories than an apple!!!

It's all mind over matter so you just have to find something that works for you and try and commit to it for even a couple of weeks. Once you see the weight dropping off that'll be the motivation you need to continue. Good luck xx

I'm the same, but seem to be having success with1400 calories, which I just call healthy eating, and more walking/jogging and the odd cycle ride. My main and set does seem to have changed though. I've been dieting g since I wad 14 and am now 58, and have never er really exercised for weight loss before. I also have come to terms with some weight loss is better than none. A pound a week is fine. I love to eat in front of the TV, so if I want to watch something later I always keep calories back and plate up snacks for the evening. Good luck. You can do it!!👍

Excellent advice here 😊 The mind is your most powerful ally 😊 Eat a generous calorie allowance, save some for a snack last thing, and try to enjoy the 'healthy eating plan' rather than a deprivation 'diet' 😊 Good luck 😊

Good advice already on here.

But Id just add that if you know evenings are your weakness then plan for them ....I still do this even now Im maintaining. If I know hubby will suggest a bottle of wine tonight, I know full well that I won't say No, and I wont stop at one glass either! So I plan for that earlier in the day with a low calorie meal so that I can have my half bottle plus a small packet of nuts or crisps .

Obviously not a habit to follow daily as it is not nutritionally adequate, but the odd day wont hurt.

Hello July's, I have posted this before, and had a tiny bit of criticism, butif iit's shifted a stone for me and two stone for my desperate freind then so be it, I have about 7 people in my familey at the moment who use this ,however read, read, read, research it first, slim extreme gold, it's not cheap,I nor anyone I know have had any side effects te with it,I was VERY desperate when I bought it,I call it fabulouse,I had been down the rout of orlistat with the doctor etc, no joy,it's bad enough been in in shocking pain then being depressed with your weight as well, I bought mine from ebay, from blessed products in the states, they are totally reliable, but also from ebay sexy.beautiful.me2014, they are in England in ,but check on the website for it first, best of luck, Angela.

I actually brought myself a colouring book and a couple of cross stichtes to do it worked for me before so I'll be digging them out again now

I find sitting and reading the posts on this forum keep my fingers and mind occupied - followed by a sugar-free jelly, a piece of fruit or cup of fruit tea (cherry and cinnamon is lovely) when I feel peckish.

Also, can you find a motivator - do you have a wedding to go to, a family get together, a milestone birthday that you can focus on for when you will want to look your absolute best and wow the members of your family? Just hold on to that thought....

Thank you everyone it's great to see so many replies. I'm on holiday in late September so I'm going to try to slim down a bit before that. I went to really good aerobics class today and I enjoyed that. I'll try each bit of advice (except the slimming pills for now) and see which works.

Hi and welcome Julesls16 :)

You've been given a lot of great advice, although, like you, I don't think slimming pills are the way to go :)

Have a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen, (bottom if you're on a mobile) and read our Welcome Newbie post. It has a link to the NHS 12 week plan, which is a great place to start. It doesn't give a specific diet plan, but gives guidelines for healthy eating.

Consider signing up for any, or all of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

We also have a monday group weigh-in and if you click follow on my profile, you'll get a notification when I post it on monday. You can have a look at the latest thread in the events section, to the right of the home page.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we meet to exchange ideas and get our daily fix of inspiration and motivation :)

Wishing you all the very best :)
