Is this normal?

This is day 1 of calorie counting and I am 300 calories short of my recommened intake, I know this will not always be like this but can anyone tell me if not eating enough calories is just as bad as eating too many?

It's bound to vary a bit from day to day, but I usually find if your weekly amount averages out to the correct number per day it's ok. If you constantly eat too little it can cause weight loss to stall as your body kind of goes into starvation mode. It's a good idea to keep a diary, that way you can look back and see what worked for you.

Hi I agree with Caz28. Ok to balance out over the week but if you constantly are under you could slow your weight loss. I find I had to work out my calories for whole day in the morning that way if you are short you can increase what you eat throughout the day. I was always tempted to eat unhealthy stuff too if I had spare calories at the end of the day. 🙂

Thank u, i agree re eating bad stuff if extra calories left over as it was a temptation to jump for a chocolate bar. Ive got a good diary so will try planning snacks as well as my main meals so i max out my cals. Enjoyed first day, hope u r doing well on plan

I think it is just something that you get used to over the first few weeks, glad you enjoyed the first day. I think to plan everything is a good idea that way you know what you have to/can eat and are not tempted to look in the cupboards for food. I have been calorie counting for about 6 months and have lost about 26 pounds. I lost on average about a pound a week. Once you start to feel those clothes feeling a bit looser it does spur you on. Best of luck to you and I hope you can join in with the Monday weigh in as it really does help to know you are part of a like minded group that all support each other and the best thing with this forum is it is 24/7 not just once a week like other weight loss groups :)

Did you weigh everything? Just because it may actually have been more calories wise than you realise.

Under normal circumstances no one should be eating less than their recommended intake. Anyone who is overweight is so because they have been eating more than their recommended intake and not doing enough exercise. Therefore they need to drop back to their recommended intake and increase their exercise.
