Just seen this on Sky News Sunrise and thought it might be a good discussion point for us all:

Have a good day

Very interesting Rob. I have been trying to walk around the house when I am on the phone more recently and as the main cook in the house I guess I stand up more than my husband as he sits and waits for dinner then sits and eats the dinner. He also sits most of the day in the car driving from place to place - probably why he is a few stone overweight. Think I will show him this clip and see what he makes of it. It's a simple change to make a difference. Thanks for posting :)

Hi muffintop67 ,

I found it interesting. I don't know if you know, but I've recently had my knees replaced having had osteoarthritis (due to my weight) since I was 18, I'm 24 now.

Prior to July last year and starting to lose weight I was an MFL teacher so had a mixture of sitting down and standing up, but mostly sitting down, especially of an evening and in the year I actually taught (I had to give it up due to my weight but now work for my brother's construction firm in the foreign department) gained about 1.5 stone so it obviously has some truth to it.

Let us know what your husband thinks - my main exercise to lose weight has been swimming as my ostearthritis became so bad in the months preceding last month and the surgery it was the only thing I could do that was relatively pain free.

Have a good day

Rob :)

Hi Rob - no I didn't know about your knee operations. I am sorry to hear that your osteoarthritis was so bad and I hope that as your new knees get stronger you are able to move about easier and with less pain. I guess swimming is quite gentle on your joints so hope that is still helping with your exercise plan. Hope you have a good day too :)

It was my own fault muffintop67 my eating and eating resulted in my continued weight gain, which put extreme pressure on my knees causing the arthritis.

I'd always liked swimming, but stopped when I surpassed the 22/3 stone mark in 2012 as I was too embarassed, and was nearly 29st when I started losing weight, I only started swimming again in October/November time when I felt that I was at a weight that wasn't overly embarrasing for me to show my massive belly in public. I'm not denying I'm not fat now - I am, I'm 22st 7lb but I'm more confortable.

Once my knees strengthen, I hope to be able to do more at my gym and use the machines a little more.

Sounds like you have come a long way Rob. I know you may still have a long way to go but hopefully as you say once your knees are stronger you can exercise more and sure the weight will come off bit by bit. Onwards and downwards as they say! Best of luck to you :)
