A scared newbie! Hello all, I thought I would say hi and help at the same time. My GP recommended this method, 45lbs to lose and would really appreciate any advice, help etc in these early days... Thanks

Hi Tina0416,

Oh, I'm hoping you won't be feeling scared when you find out how friendly and supportive this Weight Loss NHS community forum is.  I hope you'll feel 'at home' here before very long, and like one of the gang.  :-)

It's great that your GP has recommended the NHS 12 week plan, and the community forum.  We have a Welcome Newbie post, which you might find a helpful place to start - as it does have lots of things that community members have found helpful, and it gives links to the NHS 12 week plan, which I agree with your GP, is a really great way to lose weight:

We have a Monday group weigh-in as well, if you would like to join us for that, you'd be very welcome.

The Pinned Posts section (top right-hand-side of the homepage) are really useful, and there's a recipe thread there too - you need to click on the 'view more' section to see it.

I hope you'll enjoy being part of this community, and thanks for being so brave and posting, despite feeling scared.  I hope you'll feel much more comfortable very soon.

Lowcal :-)

Thank you for you response, looking forward to getting my teeth into it, just feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment.

Hi Tina0416 ! I've just started too and have dived into calorie counting and 30mins at the gym a few times a week. There are some good resources on here that will hopefully help you as much as they are me. Good luck x

Don't think about the weight total , break it down to 1 stone to start with as you go along losing it you will find motivation to carry on .That's what I am doing as I have around 3 stone to lose in total . Don't weigh your self too often either I do it once a fortnight . GoodLuck !!

HI Tina, there's a lot of good advice given to you in the last few replies, with a couple of those same people offering advice to my own queries.

I'm just finishing my 4th week and have found that taking part in some of the group challenges is fun. I might never meet any of these people, but it's great to feel like part of the gang. :-)

From feedback from other forum users, these alternative challenges in a way, soften the blow of maybe not losing any weight. You might not lose any weight one week, but an inch or two off the waist band, or being able to go that bit further during exercise is also a significant achievement. Have a look in the 'My Communities' tab for ideas.

Now let the fun begin :-)
