HI Christine,

Welcome to the forum. It can be tough when you're starting out on your weight loss journey, and it's great that you've come to a forum for some support and encouragement.

One of our forum members, a lovely woman called Moreless has put together a 'Welcome Newbie' Pack, so I thought you might want to have a look at that to see if there's anything there that might help:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

There are various things in the forum that people have found useful, and many of them are highlighted within that pack.

Hope you enjoy being part of the community and hope to see you around and about - possibly in the Monday group weigh-in if you fancy being part of that - you'll see details about it in the Newbie pack as well.

Wishing you a great first week.

Lowcal :-)

Hi Christine!

You're in the right place! We all struggle but are getting better and better at taking our health and weight back in hand!

What do you struggle with exactly? Exercise? Consistency? Healthy eating? The NHS 12 week plan is great as it gives you manageable goals and targets each week and nutrition and portion advice that is easy to implement.

Best of luck and don't hesitate to shout out if you need help or encouragement- we're all here for you!

Use your big birthday coming up as a focal point; imagine what everybody will say when they see your new improved appearance. I turned 60 last year, and for something different to do, my partner took me cycling up and down some very steep hills - (ok, so it was an electric bike, which helps a lot if you haven't been on a bike for some time)! It made me feel good though! The next decade could be a time to have some fun hopefully? Find out what motivates you, and the calorie counting becomes easier to stick with.

Hi I write everything I eat down so I keep on track and don't forget calories

Hi Christine - just a quick note so say Good Luck and Welcome! Do read the links that Lowcal has shared to you, the thread Moreless put together is stuffed with the collective wisdom (!!) of us all just before Christmas.

In short - the people in this forum are all actively tackling their weight - but the exactly "how" we are all doing it varies a lot.

Some common threads are:

Calorie count - often using Myfitness pal (which can also log weight and activity - makes a nice graph so you can admire your weight loss in due course - recommended :-)

At least starting with the NHS 12 week plan.

Trying to up the activity to help improve fitness etc - take a look at Lizzy's round the world thread where lots of us are logging our footsteps / kilometres as a collaborative effort.

Chipping in here to help out newbies and share tips and bad days with others - can't beat it to be honest. I love to be a bit helpful to others and then get a pat on the back myself sometime when I need it. The more you post, the more you'll get out of it, so do join in.

Weighing regularly - many of us join the weekly Monday weigh-in thread run by Lowcal and Friends. Helps to keep our eyes on the ball....

Some of us are also members of Slimming World or Weight Watchers for example - and use the support of those groups, as well as joining in with this forum. Personally I'm happy with doing my own thing, but I know some people like a bit more direction about "what to eat" and these groups can be helpful for that.

You sound as if you are a little overwhelmed about your 2 stone, but it's not such a lot to lose and I think you might be very pleasantly surprised about how fast the first half stone will come off when you make some changes.

I needed to lose 2 stone - started in late Sept - deliberately not doing any crazy starvation stuff! - I've had a few weeks of maintaining, a few weeks of adding on the odd pound, but mostly it's all been downwards - and now I've got just 11lb to go. Again I'm in no rush, but I'm looking forward to my summer wardrobe fitting me nicely for the first time in ages. I hope you've got that coming up soon for you too!

Good luck!

xx
