Why o Why?

Since 1 January, I haven't drunk any alcohol, munched any crisps or chomped on chocolate. After I weighed on Monday, I weighed today and discovered I had gained 2lbs. How is that possible? My daily calories have been between 1550 to 1800. What can I do until my weigh-in on Monday?

Hi Lizzy,

I would say, just stick with what you're doing currently, and by Monday the weight should hopefully come off. Maybe today's 2 pound gain is purely 'fluctuation' if that makes sense - and it can't be fat gain, so don't worry about it, and keep focused for Monday's weigh-in.

Have a lovely weekend.

Lowcal :-)

Thanks for the reassurance, Lowcal 😃 So glad I asked the question on the forum 😃😃

Hi Lizzie - that sounds depressing, especially as you've been so good with the chocolate, crisps and drink detox :-)

I don't really like to sound like a carb-limiting advocate, because I'm not ! but I genuinely find that if I have a couple of days where I eat loads of veg and protein based stuff, and really cut down the starchy carbs (except porridge for breakfast!), it makes a big difference if my weight is a bit stuck :-)

It was even more depressing y'day when my weight was +4!!! I surprised myself that I didn't go for a glass of vino.

My menu for the week has contained carbs for every meal. So I will scale back on them over the weekend. Thank you 😃😃😃

Good luck :-)

Thanks bigalan - I did have a big portion of mushroom risotto mid week. Could well be that! It was delicious though. My OH cooked it - he's a chef so anything he cooks tastes amazing :)

My weight has done a similar jump, within 2 days of Monday an extra 2.5lb 😞

Maybe our bodies are holding on to everything as they are being "more restricted" again? I've exercised more, eaten less (since new year) and put weight on.

Lets see what Monday brings 😊

Fingers crossed the scales are kind to us come Monday. :) :) :)

Hi Lizzie, I don't know how I missed your post before, but don't worry about that blip on the scales, it happens to me every single week!! :)

I'm normally sweating it all week, then by magic, on Monday it disappears and more! :)

Hi Lizzy,

I echo what the others say - weight does fluctuate day to day which is why weighing every day is not always a good idea - I think it depends on the individual. Also of course it depends on the time of weighing, I am at least 2lb heavier in the evenings.

I have found some weeks I can be a complete saint and not lose and then I have a big loss the following week.

So keep it up and hopefully the scales will reward you :)

I hope so :)

Lizzy hello!

I suffer this way too but over the years I found my weight lags behind my effort.

So this week after weigh in on 4th I too gained but this is usuaĺly as a result of my actions the week before. Then one week on from my focus It starts to come off.

It works the other way too when I am not good my weight will sometimes stay the same and am lulled into false sense of security then the following week it piles on.

Well done for not grabbing the wine! keep the focus and i am sure it will stablise and start to shift.

Its so difficult to know how long it takes for the body to respond to effort. Good to know I am in equally good company :D

Maybe look at water-retention cures - drink loads of water and herbal teas. I wonder if the detox is making your body retain water? As others have said it can't be down to gaining fat etc, patience is key. Hope the scales are kind on Monday :)

Hi Lizzy weight fluctuates every single day so if you weigh in on a daily basis then you will see increases throughout the week and then on the actual weigh in day like moreless says as if by magic there's a loss on the scales so don't worry too much. I always have a low carb high protein dinner which seems to work and never weigh in until the day as I don't want to see any fluctuations. I set a number in my head and go for it so if it's 1 lb or 2 lbs that's the number I chase all week also I like to burn all the calories I consume for the day or at least get as close to it as is possible. Wishing you a successful weigh in come Monday :-)

Good advice - thanks Trafford. I don't think I can bear to see the fluctations and it puts me off my game and take me much nearer to the junk food. I succumbed to glasses of red wine last night (shouldn't have done that - got a banging headache this morning!!)

I tend to eat my evening meal quite late - about 8 o'clock. Going to try to eat earlier today and get a good night's sleep.

Liz :) :)
