Hope it helps.

I have chicken biryani and veg curry but don't eat it all, doesn't usually impact on the scales, enjoy your night x

Hi there, I'm no expert either! But I like to order a dhal or a chickpea (chana) side; a plain boiled rice: and either another veg side eg okra or a lamb sag (spinach) main- and share them all. If you aren't vegetarian then meat without sauce eg grilled is a good idea, if you like it.

Avoid poppadums and naan bread: chapati is ok, again share it and just have a bite or two. I fyou all share all your courses , you end up just having a spoonful of different courses and you can limit what you put on your plate- eat slowly and talk lots to avoid overeating. No need for puddings either.

I also think it's good for your body to have the occasional change and possibly more calories- keeps it guessing so it doesn't get too used to the amount you're on most of the time. Sounds crazy but as long as you don't lose your healthy eating and get straight back to it, I think it is fine to eat a bit too much in terms of calories now and again as long as it doesn't turn into all the time, and as long as you stop when you're full!

Oh, and try t stick to water and only one or two alcoholic drinks- lots of silly calories in alcohol :)

Most of all, enjoy it! It's good to share mealtime.

Hi June1965,

I hope you have a lovely time at your Indian restaurant meal tonight.

I usually choose something like a Chicken Buriyani, because it comes with some curry and rice within the meal, and is a good portion size usually. I do usually have half a peshwari naan and a couple of poppadoms too - but I suspect if you cut those out then you'd be less likely to gain any weight.

Cutting down calories relating to the drinks you consume with the meal can also help. Water of course would be the best choice, but I usually have 1 small glass of red wine.

Hope you enjoy your evening, and have a lovely time!

Lowcal :-)

12 stone today (I think the bmi was 25.43). Need to get to 11 stone 11 to be at the very top of my healthy weight range).

Sorry wrong thread!

It's difficult, because so many Indian restaurants pre-cook meat and sauces (including lots of ghee/clarified butter and oil), and then just finish the dishes off when they're ordered, often adding more ghee along the way. The curries sometimes look as though they're swimming in fat!

You can try and request that they don't add extra ghee before serving you.

A friend of mine puts kitchen towel in her handbag, and then soaks up the excess fat before serving herself. It's not pretty, but it is effective!

I try to stick to tandoori chicken and other roasted/grilled dishes these days. They're usually marinated in yoghurt and spices, rather than oil.

Have fun!
