How do u do it !
I lost 3.5 stone and have put 2 on and am over weight again 👎
Yes willpower helps but if you do go off track, make sure it's just a meal here and there and try as you can to stick to healthy. I am finding it very hard but I only need to lose a stone - but my God, is it a stubborn stone or what?! I just keep telling myself would I sooner feel good in my clothes / on holiday or have a bar of chocolate/piece of cake. I want that slim feeling again - that is what is motivating me. Oh and looking at the girls at the Victoria's Secret fashion show last night certainly makes me think again.... good luck x
Hi there Kelmitch,
Well in my opinion willpower is an important part, however a whole host of other factors also come into play not least patience. Don't expect instant results, be prepared to take things slowly and to shed one or two pounds a week, some weeks you may not lose any weight, but keep to the healthy eating plan and you will lose weight.
I've tried many different diets over the years some with fantastic quick results but I regained the weight just as quick. I started the NHS 12 week plan last March and lost on average 2lbs a week, apart from looking much slimmer I feel so much better and fitter, this eating plan actually works.
Good luck to you, just be patient and stick with it, there are some truly inspirational people who use this forum and I know they will help you just as much as they have helped me.
The good thing about this plan is that you are in control of what you eat, there's no strict diet regime telling you what to eat on a blue, pink or orange day. Remember it's a challenge, and challenges aren't meant to be easy, but the reward will be so worth it.
I know this site is all about weight, size and calories but, what I'm aiming for is a healthier happier lifestyle. For me it's not so much about willpower, it's more about doing all that is necessary to reach my overarching goal.
One of the things I thought I would find hard, is giving up sugary and fatty foods. OK it was difficult for a week maybe, but one of the surprising benefits I found was that, my mouth is a lot fresher, no furring on the tongue and very little plaque on the teeth. Furthermore, on butter alone, we are saving around £5 a week and probably another £10 a week on sweets, chocolates, biscuits and cakes and at least £4 on cheese. Now if I want cheese and biscuits, I no longer buy a great big slab of tasteless over processed rubber textured rubbish, I go for a very small portions of high quality cheese.
I will continue to expect my weight to drop, as a result of my healthy lifestyle, I don't expect my health and happiness to improve through counting calories only.

Whilst you may or may not agree, I hope that looking at things from a different perspective may help.
Wishing you well
I too have put my weight back on and more (so while I can't maintain my weight I sure know how to lose it!) but having previously lost over 3 stone what I can say helps is having mini goals, and when you reach one going straight to the next. Split it up stone by stone.
Also being prepared, once you get to that stone cook a whole batch of healthy meals and freeze (I do about 18 meals in a day by making a big healthy lasagne, cottage pie and bolognese with 6 portions in each) so that those next couple of weeks it's easier to stay on track. Good luck!
I used to be exactly the same, would lose a stone, be really pleased then put it back plus a little bit extra. I got so I was scared of dieting because of putting more weight on. What made it work for me is the my fitness pal app. I wish I had found it years ago. If you set it to lose a pound a week it gives you a reasonable calorie allowance that is easy to stick to .
Also be organised, make sure you have the right foods in for lunches and to take to work so you don't come unstuck. I take smoothies to work plus a portion of suger free jelly in a little cool bag and have low calorie soups at home.
I have lost 2 stone 10 pounds and have a lot more to lose and am determined I'm going to do it as I need it for health reasons, I am already feeling a huge amount better, stick with it it's worth it.
Best of luck.
