Burger craving

β€’5 Replies

For some inexplicable reason I have been craving a burger for the last week. Burgers are just not on my food desire radar normally, so why this craving has been hounding me I really don't know. Today I got it out of my system, well sort of. I made myself a huge burger using 150g of ex. lean ground beef and seasoning, I slow cooked 150g of red onion and a couple of garlic cloves for 20 minutes in a pan so they went golden and unctiously soft. When both the burger and onions were done I wrapped them in large little gem lettuce leaves (5 leaves) and added 2 griddled tomatoes, I thought I would feel majorly cheated tasteways by not using a bread bun - ohh no, it was heaven, a wonderful taste explosion in my mouth. The best thing was I was well and truly satisfied in mind and body for just 300kcals. It tasted so nice I am planning to make this a weekly meal, next weeks is to be pork and apple, the week after turkey and cranberry - the onions will feature as a mainstay as will the griddled tomatoes, simply because I love onions and also to give moisture as I don't like sauces on my burgers or hotdogs.

So that was a mahoosive burger for 300kcals and 2 of my '5 a day', thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately, I now have a serious burger addiction, lol.

Hope everyone is having a good week and a fab weekend. I have 2 more nightshifts to go before finishing around 11am on Monday for a much needed 10 day break from work. Roll on Monday ......🐰🐒......😊😊😊😊

I've been making quorn based stir fries and wrapping them in lettuce leaves too. I found I've suddenly started going through lettuce quite quickly now! Which has got to be a good thing. Congrats for turning a potentially unhealthy craving into a new healthy meal invention :)

Thanks Ruth. I will have a go at wrapping my stirfries in lettuce, never entered my head before to do that. I love stirfries, both veggie or with fish/meat. 😊

Nothing wrong with that for a burger. I regularly have them with ex lean beef for breakfast served with a few tomatoes thrown in the pan, raw spinach and total 0 fat yoghurt. I have some days when I don't eat any carbs and this gives me a great start to the day instead of my usual porridge. Think I will try your version now, sounds really tasty.

I have been making my own burgers, sausages, meatballs etc... for years for the kids, just never really eat them myself. My daughter ate hers wrapped in the lettuce but both the lads had theirs in a big bun, not a prayer of converting them lol. I have recipes for every meat imaginable and also fish and veggie ones. I shall be partaking more often now methinks. 😊
