Bit confused...

I'm new to the NHS 12 week plan (started yesterday) and although I'm making more of an effort to eat better (especially 5 a day which I never manage!), I am a bit confused about the plan itself. Is it simply the notion of tracking what you eat and what you do? So using an app like fitness pal and sticking to the calories?? I've tried so many things and have 4 stone to shift so I really need to give this one a good go! Hoping to start a family in the near future and I want to be at my best for it...

What about following some of the exercise plans. I've started the NHS couch to 5k. Much to my surprise I am actually starting to enjoy it!

Hi RMoss! I'm try to help even though I put on 2lbs last week. Don't just think about it as dieting or losing weight but changing your relationship with food. It is about healthy eating and finding some form of exercise that suits you. A brisk walk is a good way to start. It's a lifelong lifestyle change and it's about letting yourself do it. It's more of a wanting to do it rather than a need. Bit like eating chocolate.

My first step was to realize I'm addicted to sugar. That sugar rush just keeps on wanting to get fed so I do try to avoid sweet things now. It's all about getting control back and breaking bad habits. I still turn to food when I'm stressed, unhappy, bored, etc. but I stop and tell myself to go for a walk or something else to distract myself. Works most of the time. This forum is a big help as you can read the posts and get motivation and advice. myfitness pal keeps you focused and I find it is best to set yourself a target of one or two lbs off a week. We are all in this together so do keep in touch. You'll be giving out advice too before you know it! :)

Thank you! Yeah I think that's the thing, whenever I try to lose anything, I kind of look forward to stopping the 'diet' so I can just eat what I want again... not a good way to think of things!! I'm really determined now though, just been for my first walk/run and managed 2 miles :) I still feel like I need something sweet after every meal, think that's going to take some time! Thank you for your advice :)

So glad I can help a bit. I sometimes have some mint chewing gum when I'm washing up after a meal and then I'll have a coffee when I sit down. If I really still need something I'll have an apple. Well done on your first outing. Carry on with it as the weather is going to be nice again tomorrow. :)
