My problem is comfort eating, especially in evenings. How do others cope with this.

I used to comfort eat when I was in an abusive relationship, I stopped that when I left him by placing raw vegi I.e. Carrot stick, celery, etc.. In a bowl next to my chair in the evenings... Helped me but maybe if your not so keen on raw veg, try cubes of apple in a bowl. Just an idea... Let me know how your getting on and good luck xx

Hi Maureen, I am an evening eater. I can eat very little during the day but post tea time I just want to eat and eat. I keep lots of low calorie snacks available from 10 calorie sugar free jellies to Lidl mini magnum type ice creams which are about 125 calories each. I try limit it to about 3 snacks an evening so no more than about 125 - 150 calories an evening. There is a fair bit out there that you can enjoy - yoghurts, tinned and fresh fruit, weightwatchers mini rolls to name a few. Another thing I have done is swap sweet biscuits for savoury ones, ok I know they are not healthy but I only have one or 2 and at about 20 calories each it is far better than eating 4 chocolate biscuits! Hope that helps a bit and good luck. I am finding it easier but still spend a lot of time in the evenings thinking about when I can have another snack:(

I always have knitting on the go and live in a complex for people age 55 and over and we have lots of social activities during the day and some evenings each week. I'm going through a bereavement just now, the fourth in two years so very emotional with lots of tears and that's when I binge on whatever I have in the fridge. There is such a void and emptyness since losing my husband a month ago and I find myself eating to fill that void, which of course doesn't.

Sorry for your loss, glad you have lots of activities and people around you. Everyone grieves in their own way. I think emotional eating is something we all have to work on daily not sure if it ever truly goes away we can only do the best we can to overcome it

Hi. I am an emotional eater too. Before I started my weightloss journey, I used to come from work, grab loads of food and lie in bed eating. To break this pattern, I plan my meals on my fitness pal, and rather than working out in the morning, I come back from work and do a training session in the evening and then I have my dinner. I may eat a bit late but at least it stops me binging out

From about 7pm is the danger zone! I guess we're all so busy during the day then when finally you sit down to relax for a couple of hours thoughts start to drift onto food, adverts on TV don't help, neither does a husband sitting there eating peanuts or chocolate bars! I've found planning my calories so I have enough left from my daily allowance to enjoy some fruit or a couple of Ryvitas with cottage cheese (or just as they are) helps get me through the difficult time. I'm into week 4 of my weight loss plan and it is getting easier so hopefully as the weeks roll by it will become less and less of a problem?

You're not alone! I drink loads of herbal tea, which fills me up. I sometimes end up eating a few slices of brown toast with olive oil or tomato on it.
