Hi,

I like cooking but I am a bit of newbie & student. Can anyone recommend website or books that involve cheap and easy meals?

So far I can make basic salads and stir frys but not much else. Whats everyone else's weight loss diets liked?

Thanks :)

Hello Iona, the NHS was partnered with this project nhs.uk/Change4Life/Pages/he.... On the left, there are cooking ideas, which will take you to a meal and recipe finder. They are all basic meals, easy to make and very inexpensive. (And it can be combined with a 5-a-day planner etc. also to be found on the Change 4 Life website.) I think it is a good starting place.

Good luck!

I use BBC food's website for recipes. You can search by ingredients

Google has such a huge range of recipes to look at, and adjust to your needs and likes. A fave quick meal for me is prawns with diced spring onion, in a low cal dressing (the soy, ginger and garlic nu me one is lovely) with cous cous, which you can season as you like. Anothe new thing i found was using cauliflower instead of rice, blitz it in a blender before cooking. its low cal and filling and you can add broccoli and other veg if you wanted :)

Hairy dieters recipes are brilliant as are Rosemary Conley's (if you can still get them! ). I'm on my own now so use recipes for 4 and divide into 4 portions - 1 for today, 1 for tomorrow and 2 to freeze!

Hi Iona_Ellen,

I would also suggest going to the local library and looking at their cookery section, because I think there are some books specifically for students that would have some easy and cheaper meals to prepare, and that way you could borrow the books without spending much money.

I often use the library to get recipe books - it's great as they have so much choice, and I usually only want one recipe from a book at most, and then I can just return the book. Very economical.

Hope you find some recipes you like - there are lots of websites online - just google the words 'cheap and easy recipes' and I suggest there'll be quite a few recipes that come up that should be suitable.

Happy cooking!

Lowcal :-)
