You would be right for thinking it's my own fault getting this big and I have no excuse. I really do want to lose weight and get healthy so I can continue to enjoy life with my girls and granddaughters. Any help / support / encouragement would be really appreciated especially how to start exercising when you are unfit or techniques to promote positive thinking! Thanks in advance.

Support appreciated (I can't believe I need to lose 7st)
Welcome coonbug2. We all have reasons why we've put on weight and no one will judge you as we are all in the same boat. When I look back I realise when I was stuffing my face I wasn't being greedy but stupid. There are other ways of dealing with stress then comfort eating. I find the best way of exercising is to have a brisk walk. Start off slowly and you'll soon start to enjoy it. My goal is to lose lb a week and so far I've lost 7lbs since I joined. The forum is the best place for support, advice and motivation. I read the posts everyday which I find a great help. If I'm dishing out advice then I have to be good. Keep in touch!
Welcome to the group very supportive people on here. It can be very daunting when you have a large amount to lose, i started with 9st to lose so understand how overwhelming it can be. Break it down into smaller goals. The nhs 12 week plan is a great place to start as it can fit into your lifestyle and download an app like myfitnesspal to track your calories. With exercise start small and increase it as you feel better, i started by walking and doing steps ups at home then increased it as i lost weight and felt better. It can be hard at first but you will feel so good about yourself afterwards, and when you find an activity you enjoy you will look forward to it. All the best
Hi coonbug, welcome to the forum, you are in good company here, there are lots of us with alot of weight to lose and everyone is so supportive. No matter what the reasons are, one way or another our weight has become an issue, we are not here to judge one another! ☺
The NHS plan is a great place to start, realistic changes that you can fit into your lifestyle are much more sustainable. As fibronfedup already said, start small with exercising, go for a walk each day and as you feel better you will gradually do more. Might sound a bit silly but I got one of those exercise balls and sit on it instead of the sofa when I'm watching TV as it makes you use your muscles to balance.
I wish you the best of luck and I'm looking forward to hearing how you get on 🌸
Hi there!
I'm the same, I've got a lot to lose as well (only its over 9st for me).
I'm starting the NHS plan tomorrow, and have spent the past week getting my head in the game - could say working out my plan of attack lol! I've found this has been quite helpful as I feel more prepared rather than diving right in to it and being totally overwhelmed by everything. I don't know if this might be helpful for you too?
Like everyone above has said, breaking it down in to smaller goals is a great way of thinking. Like 7st may seem a huge amount to lose, but seven stages of losing a stone at a time doesn't seem too daunting :-).
I posted a post asking for any tips to stay motivated and one of the bits of advice that has stuck in my head is to take things one day at a time. Everyone on here has been really supportive :-).
I'm a newbie on here too, but I hope I've been able to help
Good luck on your journey
Look at me, I was the most unfit and iddle person in the world. Always too tired to do things. Hating my looks. Now after 12 weeks I am getting there. I feeling good, doing the c25k bit,. I can chase my grand daughter and the dog around. I am having tea with a friend this morning and will go by bike instead of taking the car. It is a new life. When I think of all the wasted time....... 😢
Good on you for taking control of your like. If I can do it, you can and probably much better. You are looking at it, so you have started, and now you are on a roll.... Go girl....
Hi just started today, and have over 6 st to loose. my routine is always to have a brew and watch the news in the morning, I do this regardless of the day, so today I did a brisk walk on the spot whilst watching the news. Feel motivated and a sense of achievement even this early in the morning. It has made me feel in control. Had some fantastic support already on here, taking it one hour at a time at the moment! Good luck and best wishes to you. Go for it!
Hi, you are in the right place and even better you have made a start. Well done and keep posting even if/when you have a gain. Good luck
Welcome, I hope you find what you need in this community. Start by dowloading an app on your phone to keep track of calories (Fat Secret, My Fitness Pal...), it's a great aid! Good luck!
How did you do as it’s 4 years ago ?
