Meal ideas?
For my evening meal i try and save up about 500 calories and buy cod or salmon fishcakes from Salisbury's. They are roughly 250 cals each and fill you up so much with a big side of steamed veg! Drizzle a bit of blue dragon sweet and sour sauce on top of them too if it seems a bit boring!
Hope this helps! x
Take a look at the Aldi web page it is full of recipes on the top of the home page. Some good looking dishes
One of my fave meals is prawns and spring onion in a chilli and garlic sauce with cous cous so yummy and very filling. Another way i have found to save calories and increase my intake of veg is to blitz cauliflower and broccoli down into rice size pieces then boil, then have that instead of rice or pasta, really filling
My fave is roasted veg, I just throw in whatever I fancy, usually include onion and mushroom for water so I don't have to use much oil, I usually drizzle a tbspn on and some mixed herbs. I portion it out as I normally end up with masses coz I use lots of different veggies. It'll keep in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze, then you can use it to accompany anything, meat, fish, or cold in a salad, gives instant flavour! 🍄🍅🍆🍠🌿🌺
NHS has something in the 5 a day section with recipes.
Hey! I'm a big fan of the hairy dieters books. All the evening meals are between 300-500 cals and they do lots of different things - stir frys, curries, salads, soups, breakfasts, and they also do a lot of 'healthy alternative' versions of classics like beef stroganoff and pan haggerty
I tend to make sure I have a variety of food, not just in the meal, but throughout the meals during the week. for example, if I have chicken one night, I'd plan for fish another night, or if I have pasta one night, then I'd have new potatoes another night, and etc. for each individual meal I try and make sure I have enough veg too. just a couple of ideas is pasta in passata with veggies (carrot, courgette, pepper) with chicken in balsamic vinegar, or chicken cooked on a bed of chop tomatoes and onions, served with new potatoes, green beans and carrots, they are two of the family faves in this house. I tend to add herbs like oregano, and sometimes garlic, what ever you fancy to suit the flavours you like. hope it helps
I'm with Faerygold! Hairy dieters have some brilliant (family friendly) recipes! Have yet to find a bad one!
Thank you xx
I have found the Change for Life app good. All the meals are nutritionally as well as calorie counted. They are not mega expensive either. Eat Better, Feel Better is also good it is the Scottish version of Change for Life. I mingle them in with other meals. I have also calorie counted some standard meals so I know where I am. eg. Poached egg on toast, weetabix and SS milk. Hope it helps.
