I was so determined to lose weight and I spoke to my mum about it and she was very supportive but recently no one has been willing to help me lose weight, not even my GP. I don't know what to do anymore and I don't want to go to any fitness classes as I am embarrassed and scared to go myself and no one I know is willing to go with me. Help!

I'm struggling!
Hi Megan, this must be really frustrating after you've been so determined. But try not to let it derail you. If you really want to do it, you need to hang in there and see this as a challenge that you need to overcome. I have the same issue and no-one to go to classes or the gym with. But I think the initial embarrassment wears off pretty quickly and you feel so proud of yourself after having done it. If you genuinely feel like you cannot bring yourself to get to the classes, set yourself another goal. People on ths site have great ideas - walking, cycling, or someone recommended fitnessblender workouts on youtube to me. I'm definitely going to check these out. Why not try one of these and then post how you've done on this site? People will respond and support you and you'll feel great. Keep at it and good luck!!
Hi! I found an app which let's me record what I eat and drink and how much exercise I'm doing. I'm also starting to buy fitness dvd's so I'm really hoping this will help! I felt intimidated every time I went to the gym and that's why I stopped going and right now I don't have the confidence to go back. Thanks for the advice and I will keep you updated!
Its horrible when you dont get the support from loved ones but remember ultimately you are doing this for you and no one else. This site is full of people who understand and will support you.
I dont like the idea of the gym but have found ways to lose weight without going to the gym. I do most of my exercise at home and do alot more walking than i used to. Long as you are staying active you will be going in the right direction.
Stay strong hun plenty of ideas on this site and on the internet for how you can lose weight without a gym. Find what works for you and when you feel stronger/fitter go to the gym then. You can do this
It is a shame that you feel like no-one is supporting you. I am surprised at the GP being unhelpful - did s/he say that you didn't need to lose weight? Have you checked your BMI to see whether you are a healthy weight or not. I guess that, if you are a healthy weight - even if you feel you need to lose weight - the GP would not be keen on helping you to lose more weight.
But if you are in the overweight or obese category then you should be able to count on the support of the GP - maybe try the practice nurse instead.
