Having both knees replaced

I am trying to lose weight been told to lose a lot. I am having both my knees replaced in February. Have been having swimming lessons. But was wondering how long after the operation will I be able to go back in the water. Been told need to be off work for 3 to 4 months.

I would think, as soon as the external scars (incisions) have healed up, you'll be able to get back in the water - gently. The hardest thing may actually be getting in, depending on whether there are steps or a ladder to climb down.

You poor thing. I have problems with my knees, but they won't do anything until they collapse completely, good old NHS, but stops me swimming and I used to do aqua, but can't now as its too painful and started zumba with my daughter and loved it, but too painful, so trying to walk a little and exercise on my exercise bike.

I do know coke is not good for you, diet or not, still has sugar in, so if you can get off it, best you can. I hate the stuff, but like other naughty stuff, we are all human, except my managers................

Are you having them at the same time?

I'd try to go as soon as the staples are out. Talk to physio if you can get hold of one. I was off work 3 months but you need to do exercise immediately and well done for doing some now, you'll strengthen the muscles around them. The hard part is getting the knee to bend again. It doesn't want to, you must order it to. This may make it difficult getting in the water. Are there steps down into the learner pool? Or hydrotherapy at hospital?
