I am 65 and in the last year have found it almost impossible to lose weight. I am becoming quite depressed by this. I need to lose at least a stone. I am 11st 7 now which is the heaviest I have ever been. I am starting the 12 week diet today. Any advice-especially from older women

Hi, I'm 52 - but I've been post menopausal since I was 42 so I know how hard it is to lose weight when your body changes.
Why not try a different approach to losing weight if what you tried before just didn't work? I've been following a low carbohydrate, high fat diet (LCHF) which is recommended by the Swedish government as the best diet to follow for weight loss. I've been steadily losing weight and I find it pretty easy to do now I have got myself into the mindset of eating plenty of butter, cheese, olive oil, avocados etc (a bit mind blowing after years of low fat dieting!). Eating fat helps me feel full and Not eating carbs also helps stop cravings.

Best wishes for success this time!
I'll be 65 at Christmas. I've always struggled with my weight and yoyoed between diets, always putting the weight straight back on again, and more, as soon as I stopped counting calories. And daily diets are sooo tedious!
On 6th August 2012 I watched an amazing BBC Horizon programme, "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" which obviously at our age is what we want to do. It completely changed my life! It's on iplayer now at bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b...
The concept is that you restrict your calories to 500 on just two non-consecutive days a week and this is said to reduce your risk of cancer, diabetes and dementia. This little video explains more youtu.be/W9Aj6hRYg4A
In six months of following this diet I lost three stone, and went from a size 16 to a size 10. Better than that, I have kept the weight off since April 2013 by just 'fasting' one day a week.
My knees and back are no longer painful and I now walk an average of five miles a day - and I even started running - for fun! I've never been as slim or as fit and healthy!
I'm 61, 5ft 3 and am losing 1lb 05oz most weeks. I keep to 1200/1300 cals. I eat carbs in my diet, as don't feel satisfied without them. I steer clear of sugar and junk foods. I walk my dogs daily for at least 45mins, use a stationary bike and lift weights. I have lost 2 st in 14 weeks and only have another stone to reach the middle of my ideal weight. Then the part I find hardest, maintenance.
Its really a case of eat less and move more. Goodluck..
