Try to do other things that make you feel good- look up old friends, join a club and meet some new ones, go somewhere you haven't been before, take up a hobby you've always wanted to do. I'm learning that food is only a small part of what we do in our lives, yet it seems to take precedence over so many things. Not helped by the media, particularly the TV.

Eat to live- not live to eat is my motto!

Don't go shopping when you're hungry and don't buy the foods you shouldn't!

Eat from smaller plates and don't go back for seconds.

If you're feeling hungry then have a hot drink and go for a walk or keep busy.

Hunger passes - it doesn't get worse.

Don't eat anything after your evening meal.

So are you saying that artificial sweetener is a carcinogen ? I always used to think this but we get told time and time again to use it when on a calorie reducing diet.

Some sweeteners can cause stomach upsets and diarrhea, but the link with cancer has only been shown in rats, as far as I know. Stevia seems to be ok for a lot of people, but no one seems to know what the long term effects of artificial sweeteners might be. One suggestion is that they may still cause weight gain like sugar! Probably better to give up sugar and sweeteners altogether if you can.

Thanks for that Penel, I thought I'd read it somewhere! I only use artificial sweetener in desserts that I prep for my husband who has type 2 diabetes and a very sweet tooth. But I use very little. Have also found that halving the sugar in cakes that I bake occasionally makes no difference to the outcome when baking. It must all help.

:) thanks for every ones responses!
