can I lose weight, taking prednisolone... - Weight Loss Support
can I lose weight, taking prednisolone, amytryptyline, morphine sr, just had thyroxin up to 50, would the nhs choices diet help
Anyone can lose weight but it won't be easy. Amitryptamine puts weight on and if your thyroid isn't completely stable yet then it will be very hard. Why not keep a truly accurate (including the odd grape, gravy veg) and try maintaining weight for a couple of months. You will feel more in control if you do. At the end if you are successful you will know how many calories you need to maintain. It may be as low as 1400 calories which will make dieting very hard. It is not good practise to go below 1000 calories a day. If your maintenance level is 1700 calories then you can lose weight by reducing 500 calories a day and upping your activity levels within your ability.
I hope that makes sense. Firstly get in good habits by keeping a really accurate food diary and armed with the info you need work out your own calorie allowance. The nhs plan although full of good ideas may well be too generous for you as it works on a one size fits all basis.
thanks for that info, I have been doing slimming world but its not helping, I will have to get used to thinking that all fruit is free. it's the prednisolone that makes me so hungry, I will have to be very hard on myself and has you say keep a very true food diary, anything that goes in my mouth has to count, thanks x
Hi dillydally
slimming world is basically marketed as gluttony in a way that might make you lose weight. It works for fit healthy people but all diets work for them! They just have to stick to them. Part of the problem with slimming world and WW new one is that they encourage you to eat to the limits. They want you to lose weight as slowly as possible to maximise their return. Unfortunately the leaders so often can't grasp the idea that some of us need to eat a lot less than others so keep on telling us to eat all our syns or points. It's a very different mentality counting calories but it's the only method that works for everyone if they do it honestly. If there is a chance of lowering the drugs in the future maybe if you need to eat so little to lose weight that it's too hard maybe you could just maintain until you can cut down or come off some of them. Try taking the edge of your hunger by driving king a glass of water when you are hungry and before meals. It can help.
