Hi ainaa16,

Usually the best way is to stop putting them into your mouth! (I know, that wasn't what you actually meant - sorry!)

Well, there's a number of approaches you can take.

There's the straight non-availability method. If you don't buy them - or let others give them to you - you won't have any to eat and then you'll probably just have to eat something else that may well be less calorie-laden.

Why do you eat them? What's going on for you when you do? Comfort eating? Boredom eating? Find other forms of comfort. Busy yourself with better activities than munching on the bad stuff.

Wean yourself off. E.g. Allow yourself, say, no more than 100g of chocolate a week. If you eat it one go, then you do without until the end of the week. After you've got used to that, drop it to 50g.

Substitute it. Instead of chocolate, have a banana. Or some raspberries. Or ...

One thing to remember is that you eat chocolate and sweets not because you need to, but because you're in the habit of eating chocolate and sweets. Just like a smoker finds it hard to believe s/he can do without a cigarette, in fact s/he can.

If you stopped eating them, or had considerably less than your currently do, you'd actually get used to it quite surprisingly quickly.

Good luck with your weight loss efforts.

Substitue for healthy alternatives, Often if i feel the cravings for chocolate or sweets i will eat metcalfe's skinny topcorn! it is a flavorsome popcorn that only contains 100cals per bag!

You want one of us to say there is a way of avoiding all the cravings, mood swings and general misery of coming off sugar. There isn't. However, researchers recently discovered you can trick your brain into thinking it ate the craved food by looking at a picture of it. I took that a step further. I closed my eyes and imagined I was eating all the chocolate biscuits I wanted. It worked. After 16 days I finally kicked my sugar habit and I haven't looked back. Also, check out Sarah Wilson's blog. She has great advice on life after sugar.

I'm having one mug of hot chocolate at 40 cals every evening for my fix, and as a little treat for being good all day. ;) x
