Strength /activity: Newly started week... - Weight Loss Support
Strength /activity
Aerobic gets your heart and lungs going eg Running, walking, dancing, cycling, etc
Strength works on particular muscles or groups of muscles .
There are podcasts for both
Meant to say needed example s of strength, not sure what a pod cast is and how do u get into it ?
press-ups, squats, using weights, etc - anything which helps to strengthen your muscles. Talk to a youngster about podcasts - I know they're there but can't get at them alone.
On the NHS site, look for c25K for running and Strength and Flexibility for, well, strength and flexibility.
If you do any heavy work or gardening etc where you are using muscles that is also good. But it is better to get into a structured routine. Good luck
What about doing the NHS Couch to 5K running plan. You start off just running for 30 seconds at a time. nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/...
To be honest feel I am too heavy for that just now but it would be something to aim for my in future , thanks
Then try Leslie Sansone's walking videos on YouTube. These last anything from 15 minutes for one mile to 75 minutes for five miles. Try walking even for one mile a day - it all burns calories.
Am making a point of going for a walk every day....and on days off a swim! Sounding very motivated butnit is week 1!!! Did walk1.5 miles last night and really trying to walk 10000 steps a day .
That's an excellent start! I wear a Fitbit which measures all the steps/miles I do and the calories burned and syncs to my phone and desktop, and I try to turn all the statistics 'green' every day. I get a report each week that tells me how many miles I've done and it's brilliant for motivating me to do more and more. I only have the cheapest one (Zip) but others measure stairs climbed as well. It wouldn't measure your swimming but you can add that as an extra activity. It sounds like you're starting with the right attitude!
For me it is gardening - have an allotment and even in this kind of weather there is always something to be done - it is fantastic being out in the open air, listening to birdsong - and chatting to fellow gardeners - and healthy produce at the end of it!
