Hello :) Can you list a few foods that you like to eat x x

You must be a very fussy or unconfident eater if you don't like any! They are an important food group, could you try different ways of cooking them or combining them with other more favoured tastes?

The Harcombe diet, it's more a way of life than a diet, lots of protein no or limited carbs definitely no sugar, no processed foods and really eat the way that we ate thirty years ago before the governments told us to base our meals around sugars and starches.

Fruit and veg is essential whether you are looking to lose weight or not, so basically there is no diet that is 'good for you' that doesn't include these.

whoa, tough call. Renka's right but then I can't imagine NOT loving fruit and veg - mind you I'm well on my path of living life better. I think you just need to 'LEARN to love' f&v, and there'll be some you may never love - broad beans and artichokes in my case. I heard somewhere that an infant needs to taste something a number of times before it acquires a taste for it, and I believe as adults it's the same. Many of our memories of 'veggies' rely on the school meal versions - soggy, bland and tepid - not calculated to instil a love of alI things leguminous! I don't know your age or current diet but if you eat a lot of processed meals you may have trained yourself to like highly flavoured foods, especially those including high levels of salt, and you'd need to re-train the ol' taste buds. If I'm correct about your current diet, I suggest you try gradually reducing the portion size of the food you DO like, and adding a small portion of a couple of veggies, maybe frozen peas or sweetcorn as they're quite easy to pour and sweet in taste - just plunge them in boiling water for a minute or two so they stay crisp and tasty. Increase the vegetable portions gradually, then try and increase the variety. Do the same in summer with salads - decrease the lasagne/pizza, increase the side salad until it covers 2/3rds of your plate. And don't think of salad as just lettuce; rocket has a great peppery kick, spring onions give bite, cucumber and raw peppers crunch. I drizzle balsamic vinegar over mine, and trust me it took me a while to learn to love that!

Fruit may be a tougher one to crack although tinned fruit counts towards your five a day, just check it's in fruit juice, not syrup. I have a mid-morning fresh fruit salad with yoghurt most days and as my weight is not really an issue now I add sunflower seeds - yeah, I know I sound a complete freak but I have really REALLY learned to love REAL food.

The very best of luck - all I can say is that, at the age of 52, I have never felt better in my life!

Hi, I was the same and found weight watchers was good as you can still have your treats but now I do the nhs calorie counting as I feel this is more flexible. It's annoying when you say to people you don't like fruit and veg and they lecture you. I have come round to liking some veg but I don't think I will ever like salad types of vegetables or a lot of fruit. I find a diet needs to be something I can make work for me every day so a flexible diet was bested. Good luck

Hi oliviajw,

It's really important when changing your eating habits to ensure you are - notwithstanding a reduction in fats / carbs through reducing your calorie intake - still getting a full range of nutrition. That includes things like vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, EFAs, etc.

And eating more green veg, fruit and fish will certainly help you in that aim.

But maybe, just maybe, there is some reason you don't like fruit or veg? Perhaps you haven't experimented with it enough - there really is just so many ways to serve these up.

There's lots of advice on the nhs live well lose weight pages about this sort of thing ad I'd stongly encourage you to have a good read around those web-pages.

Good luck with your weight loss efforts.
