Negative thoughts and eating
Well done for resisting If you are genuinely hungry then eat something healthy and filling, if you are simply carb craving then try drinking water or a hot drink like tea (no sugar of course) can satisfy. If the cravings get to bad then try doing something obscure or out of routine to interrupt them, could be throwing a ball, singing, telephone a friend, have a bath, anything really.
It does get easier, but it won't in the short term sadly.
When I have bad day, am tired or down I've always cheered myself up with ...... Food and the more yummy and fattening the better but that's how I ended up overweight, so its a case of not giving in to old bad habits and focus on how fab you will start feeling not only as you lose weight but also as you take control and say to that little naughty ' go on one won't hurt voice ' no as a minutes pleasure isn't worth it.... I am you can do it.
give me a call or send txt and we can be friends and talk...
This might sound a bit mad - but if I am feeling stressed it really helps me to get some exercise. For me that is usually going for a run or a swim. I feel 100 times better afterwards. I think focusing on something else for a bit makes the problems of the day seem less important I guess doing something relaxing like yoga would be good too. Whatever might help refocus your mind on something more positive.
Hi tiggernic,
I guess the trick is, when you're feeling a notch or two down, to find different ways of dealing with the situation other than comfort eating / bingeing. Or perhaps you could do your comfort eating in a really healthy way with fruit and veg rather than sweets and fatty things.
Then again, if you're feeling physically a tad under, say you're going down with a cold or a bug, then I'm not sure it harms too much to have a SLIGHTLY more indulgent food intake for a day or two. Sometimes it's good to listen to your body, but clearly not when listening to it makes you significantly overweight. Like: time and places, folks.
And sometimes a bit of physical activity, as albionjen says, gets the adrenalin going and can lift you up out of it.
In the final analysis, only you can decide - you're the one that'll have to make the call.
But the notion of changing your eating habits DOES include your eating behaviours when stressed or under pressure. And for many people they're the hardest ones to re-think and re-work, because at the time these happen, you're stressed out and under pressure!
Good luck with your weight loss journey.
Thank you so much for wonderful comments. I have read and 're read and they have helped to re focus my mind. I have started swimming and I downloaded a yoga routine to try. Depression is not a stranger to me and deal with it on a daily basis and I know that eating the wrong things in the long run only makes me feel worse about myself. I am happy to say that after a bad couple of weeks my weigh in today has shown a loss of 5lb which is fantastic and I thank you for helping me do it x
