Hi Paterson, well done for taking the initial step.

I use Hairy Dieters - How to Love Food and Lose Weight recipe book, food tastes great, some can take a while to prepare but you wouldn't know you are eating healthily. It's good for the whole family and I tend to make the recipes and freeze spare portions.

Online -

nhs.uk/change4life/Pages/me...

gives some great recipe ideas. Also, look at My Fitness Pal - a great website for logging all that you eat and any exercise you do. You will find most foods with their calorific value already on there, so it is an easy way of keeping a record of what you eat and how many calories you are having. It is really useful to keep a food diary of every little thing that you eat!

Good luck.

Hi paterson,

There's various things around and about on the internet, but one word of caution.

"Low fat" does not necessarily mean "low calorie". A "low fat" product might contain just as many calories as the normal one - but perhaps they've taken out the fat(s) and replaced it with sugar(s), for example.

So watch carefully - the devil is in the detail!

I found the Hairy Dieters book helpful - I think it's still available.

Good luck with your weight loss journey.

Hi Paterson,

Lower fat cooking is fine because often food and recipes contain more fat than idea.

Lo fat labels on food can be deceptive and "amazingly" some normal items especially own brand or basic brands contain less fat than the low fat.

If I were cynical I might think "low fat" label is sometimes actually "high profit margin".

If you have any queries of question someone will be able to help you out!

Not what you're looking for?
