Not quite for all - I understand that it's an averaged out figure based on lots of clinical data and which takes into consideration the gender differences in respect of body fat distribution, but that it relates to adults only.
Younger people usually need more calories than adults as they are generally more active and they also need to fuel their growth, to some degree.
Like many other numbers about human weight, it isn't perfectly mathematically exact, but it is a good guideline for women.
If you want something more accurate, you could probably do a bit of research on the web and find the formula for calculating the calories required for your current body mass - someone posted it on these blogs some months ago if I remember right - then factor in your calorie expenditure (approx) and a calorie deficit to obtain an appropriate weight loss rate ....
Personally, I'd consider that a right palava and that life's just too short - but each to their own!
I am now eating 1600 a day. I'll see what happens.
