Calorie counting and needing help

Hello you lovely people. So I have just started calorie counting to see if I can lose weight. I have researched my BMR and calculated everything to be in a calorie defict but I'm struggling to get my calories to the calculations.

So my BMR is 2184.25 if I times this by 1.2 for my activity level my calorie intake should be 2621 to maintain my current weight and I read that you should take 300-500 off to get your calorie defict which would be 2121 - 2321 but I am struggling to get my calorie intake above 1300. I only started on Thursday.

My question is am I doing more harm than good? What can I do to get the calories up? I'm just not hungry. I have been diagnosed with coeliac so have cut all wheat since Thursday. I am tracking everything I eat in a calorie app. Just some advice would be nice.

Hi Talliebobs and welcome back :)

Looking at your profile, I see you've followed SW and WW previously and lost weight and then regained. They are based on calorie counting so there's a danger you could have the same results if you follow the same path again.

For anyone who has a long history of battling with their weight, I think this is worth reading - When weight loss is a struggle

There's some reading here on the downsides of calorie counting as a way to lose weight and maintain it. There are members here who have found success with this approach but, since that's not the case for you, maybe something different would suit you.

This is a simple plan and would fit with your gluten free plan

I've probably said enough now but, as a reminder of what's on offer here, see our Pinned Posts

I did calorie counting via MyFitnessPal and found it the simplest way as it checks macros so you soon get to know where the nasties lie in over processed foods as you can scan barcodes . I just stuck to 400 , 400 and 600 three meals per day and about 100 either up or down . This suited me as I shopped accordingly and had basic portions to suit calorie intake . I feel slimming clubs don’t promote long term lifestyle very well . If I want the odd wine , chocolate etc.then I plan my week to include more exercise . Walking helps . I just had the free version of this as I didn’t want to over think .

Yea I'm in putting all my calories via a bar code and weighing everything.

I did this for about a month then you get used to tried and tested foods . I got a bit bored of putting all down after this time but was great for guidance .

HiI calorie count as well and I allow between 1000 and 1200. Occasionally I go over but very rare. If you eat like I do loads of salads and veggies it is hard to go over. I have been doing this for 11 weeks now and just gone into my 12th week. I have lost a total of 32lb as of last Friday.

And I am fine. Thk I am now taking vitamin supplements now. Just in case

Hooe thjs is of help

No you not, is harmfull if you would take less that 1200 a day. Keep going even with 1400 and still will be loosing weight.

Hi and welcome, Kristaile :)

I agree, cutting calories too low can be counter-productive.
