Hi everybody, I was wondering if I could have some advice.
So today I have had my pelvis ultra sound results back and it’s come back that my ovaries are fine but I have follicles that suggest polycystic ovary syndrome, I am devastated and I have an appointment with my GP to discuss my options.
I feel so frustrated with myself and my body, I am overweight which I know doesn’t help but I am back to dieting and exercising due to booking a holiday next year and also this has given me the kick up the backside to lose weight.
Many thanks any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Aimi, I understand that you might feel frustrated with yourself but you can’t blame yourself. It’s a difficult diagnosis to hear (if it is confirmed) but it is not your fault and you are not alone!
Your GP should hopefully give good advice but I’d recommend and Endocrinologist appointment. You should ideally be given the combined pill and possibly additional medication like Spironolactone or Metformin which could help with some symptoms.
Outside of that I’d say a manageable diet is the best way, don’t push yourself too much, but weight loss can have a major impact on PCOS in a good way.
Generally I’d say look after yourself mentally and physically as that is the most important thing! I hope this gives a bit of helpful guidance and there’s help out there if you need it!
Thank you so much, I will take your advice, I’ve got a GP appointment next Thursday so I’ll see what he suggests, but yeah I agree with the dieting and exercise it’ll do my mental well-being the world of good
I have sobbed so much today as I fear this’ll put damage on my marriage, I’ve been with my husband for 14 years, he keeps telling me that he will be by my side every step of the way, I just feel so guilty that it’s down to my body.
I have a book at home that I read and is very helpful from a significant Endocrinologist on PCOS and I would suggest giving it a read! There are also many PCOS dieting books but this is covered in the book I’ll link when I’m home.
PCOS has its challenges but a diagnosis shouldn’t be seen as a bad point, in fact it’s the recognition and sometimes the impetus needed for things to get better, as it can give answers and lead to good treatment!
It can be a difficult time but think of this as a first step and if your husband has been with you for 14 years and says he’ll be by your side for every step that’s great and you cannot blame yourself!
