Ultrasound results. How long?

Hi 👋

I’m new to the group and was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for a Transvaginal Ultrasound result.

It has been two weeks today and I have not received any news from my gynaecologist who booked the scan for me. Am I being impatient?

The lady doing the scan could see what she thought looked like a 5cm cyst on my left ovary but I am yet to know for sure what it is. Getting a little anxious waiting.

It will depend on your NHS area I am afraid, I would have thought it could be up to 6 weeks to get your results.

PCOS cysts are really follicles rather than proper cysts and their are usually lots of them. Also the cysts are only a symptom and not the the cause so can come and go so it doesn't mean you don't have pcos if you don't have the cysts. They can diagnose you by symptoms alone.

Have a look at the NICE guidelines on PCOS as it may help.

Hi :)

If you're really worried there's no harm in giving the gynaecologist secretaries a call and asking if they've received the results and when you'll hear. I seeing an Endocrinologist and was actually sent for an ultrasound by my GP for what I thought was a seperate issue, so I just rang the secretary and asked her to inform the doctor, then I received a letter with the results.

I know from working in a hospital sometimes they just need a little nudge :)

Hope you get sorted!

Amber

Thank you for replying. I have rang the drs secretary 👩‍💼 today and she said my notes are in her tray waiting to be reviewed and she mentioned that she is not able to give me my results over the phone, she said she will email the doctor to make her aware that I have chased and she said she would ring me back. Unsure why she would ring me back if she is not allowed to give me results over the phone. Should I be worried 😟

I’m wondering if it’s because she can’t interpret them, or she might get the GP to ring you back? I know I can’t give results over the phone because I can’t interpret them so I ask the doctor to and either they ring me back or give me the information to ring the patient back myself. Nothing to worry about and if it has been anything seriously alarming it would have been flagged up by the GP and would have been an urgent phone call 🙂 x

Hospital update:

Hospital has just rang me. My gynaecologist was on leave hence the wait but it has been passed on to another dr. The secretary of the dr rang and basically said that they want to see me and I need to book a follow up appointment to discuss my results and maybe surgery. They said it looks like a simple cyst so try not to worry. I've been given a number to ring to book my follow up appointment. Xxx

Yes I am feeling okay 👌 just happy to finally be getting somewhere with it all. It’s taken me 8 years of pain to get this far so taking one day at a time. Thank you 😊

I know the feeling! It took me years too and even though you don’t want anything to be wrong with you, you know there is and you just need answers! I still have ongoing unanswered questions about other problems and I just want to know the end is in sight! Hope you get everything sorted sending lots of luck and best wishes! Xxx

I had Ultrasound Scan as Bloods were ok except CA125 which was high.

Also had CT Scan for clearer images of enlarged ovary and Ascites which was drained.

Had Chest Xray as breathing problems which showed Fluid on the lung.

Now waiting for for tests for Ulrasound on Heart and Laparoscopy and Camera inside vagina to find out how the disease is spreading and to get a proper diagnosis so they can give me the right treatment and to ease the 24/7 pain.

The palative care team are excellent but really need to speak to others who have gone through the same thing.

Has anyone had the tests with the camera inside and will I feel any pain afterwards.
