I had an ultrasound scan today as I have been having severe pain in my lower right abdomen and I am desperate to be checked for endometriosis as it runs in the family.
The sonographer said my right ovary has got significantly larger (luckily no overly large cysts) and my left has also got bigger but not as severe. There were no signs of endo on my scan (had an internal one too) but she said she is very concerned and says this should have been dealt with better by my doctor who should have got me checked for endometriosis as soon as I started getting these pains (lately I have been getting brown discharge but no blood).
I am due to go back to the doctors next week where I am going to request to be referred privately. I do want a laparoscopy as I want to be fully checked for endo, who is better to go to? An endocrinologist or a gynaecologist?
Thanks ladies x

Hi, I'm not certain but i guess go to a gynecologist since they specialize in the female organs and all that stuff. Endocrinologists are more focused on hormones. So i would go see a gyn first since maybe they can refer you to a endometriosis specialist to do the procedure or something. If that doesn't work then ask someone to look up if there are any endometriosis specialists near you in your local area. Hope i helped! You can chat me anytime on here!😘❤
no pcos is an endocrine disorder (hormone imbalance) - the cysts on the ovaries are only a symptom of pcos and not the cause (which is what they thought originally). A gynae cant do anything for you unless you want to start a family!
ah ok this is really useful thank you! I am definitely not planning a family anytime soon! That is very interesting, thank you I think an endocrinologist it is! xx
Endo as they treat both pcos and endo - a gynae deals with 'fanny and ovary' stuff which pcos is not (the name is misleading now further research has been done and they are discussing changing the name as not ovary related as the cysts are only a symptom and not the cause - which is what they thought originally)
