Hello

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2014 and have subsequently put on 2 stone. I am not on any medication despite many hospital and doctor visits.

I eat what I assumed was healthy and exercise 2-3 times a week. But I obviously need to change my diet as my weight is still increasing. Any advice on what to eat and what to not eat and if I should be pushing for medication would be helpful.

Thanks x

As I understand it, low sugar and low carbs. Wishing you the best on your journey. Can message me if you need any more info

Low GI foods and more protein, less sugar and carbs

Always line the stomach with a teaspoon of oil and eat veg and proteins before carbs and sugars. When drinking alcohol, try to have it on a lined stomach or after a pint of water. This all helps stop the sugars going into the blood stream quickly and having a sugar spike.

Hi, the only thing that works for me with PCOS is Slimming World, I've put on 3stone in the past 15months and I have just lost 15lbs in 4 weeks!

Wow that's amazing! I always thought slimming world was eat as much sweetener and carbs tho which I thought wouldn't be good for PCOS

Yeah on slimming world you can be carb friendly and I won't lie I love their roasties and chips! But it always works for me when I first got diagnosed 10 years ago I lost 5 stone in just over a year! I put it all back on and more over the years and now I have to start again but it still has worked! I'd give it a try 😊

My GP will not entertain putting me on any medication as I'm not currently trying to conceive. I had a gastric bypass just over a year ago but it has still been a struggle to lose weight after a big loss in the first 6 months or so. My calories are exceptionally low but that's because of my smaller tummy. I follow a low carb, low GI and high protein diet as my dietician recommended that is best for people with PCOS. Good luck! X

Low GI generally - also if we ate the RDA we would still put on 2lb a month so over a stone a year as we store it so efficiently, we would be great in a famine lol so we do need to eat considerably less just to maintain our weight ....
