This is an interesting and rather horrifying link to E numbers and additives. Back in the past I used to think if it wasn’t safe they wouldn’t be allowed to use it. How wrong was I. Also you can see that some of the additives are banned but only in certain countries.
A friend sent me the link so I hope you find it interesting too!

Good morning Ali,
Just to add to your list when the source is sucrose this can be a wheat derivative and wheat deriv's do not have to labelled as such in the UK/EU whereas in the US Australia they do. So we have global markets but we don't have global standards. 🤨
Also mannitol E421 is used in most supermarket multi vitamins and they have a powerful laxative effect on me and are used as a baby laxative and can cause kidney disfunction 😱Mannitol can also be a wheat derivative.
All artificial sugars should be avoided by those who are intolerant to wheat or have IBS.
Being a great believer that 'we' the consumer should know exactly what we are eating this is a great post Ali.
And the important thing to note is, eg: refined soybean oil could be labelled as vegetable oil, fish, nuts, barley, wheat and milk don't have to be mentioned with exempt products.
This is for the convenience of the manufacturer so they don't have to have the expense of changing the label when they change from a different plant/animal source. This is according to the FSA. ☹️
Thank you for sharing Ali. I was the same as you but I no longer trust those that make and produce our food.
I have no read the article yet but certainly will do.
Thank you Hidden for your additions as well, very useful.
