methotrexate....and flare ups

Ive been on methotrexate for 2 weeks now...ive started flaring up on my face (hives and swelling) can anyone tell me if this starts to die down after a while? thanks xxx

This sounds like an allergic reaction to methotrexate - if I were you, I would get medical opinion asap.

Hi Lucinda I,m on Methotrexate at the moment and everytime I take it I have swelling flare ups for roughly three days,as alex says it could be an allergic reaction or it could just be a side effect of swelling and a hive breakout at the same time either way I would consult your carer as soon as possible and talk to them as soon as possible. I am awaiting for my consultant to get permission to put me on rituxamab as I,m not fairing well on the meth. Hope this helps.

I was on Metho' for about 2 years, without any reaction but have just been put on Leflunomide as the Metho' stopped working.

I can't take Rituximab as I have EGPA (Churg Strauss Syndrome)

thanks guys....swelling is going down. my vasc is urticarial and ive been on mycofenalate for 4 years but it didnt do much....i went on rituximab and had a massive allergic reaction! im hoping its just a reaction to the change but i will inform my consultant today.

could i ask; which of the Urticarial have you got?

i think its leukocytoclastic vasculitis but theyve never been able to give me a definate answer as it appears like HSP too. I have had no change in 4 years. Im still on steroids unable to reduce down from 12mg but im holding out hope

Just to let you know my vasculitis has settled feeling pretty great down to 8.5mg of steroids now all is going well x
