Has anyone managed to get over tonsillitis or a chest infection ok but is left with a niggling cough for weeks after, that will not go away?

This cough affects John especially in the evening and in the night and he is struggling to shake it off. Has anyone else experienced this?

My Auntie who is 82 doesn't have vasculitis but I presume will have a lowered immune system due to age, had a normal cold in January and for about 6 weeks after could not sleep with a niggling cough in the evening and at night but was OK during the day. She used to take a small amount of Manuka honey to sooth it and Rescue Remedy Homeopathic drops.

She is over it now.

My favourite for thing for coughs is Honey (Soothing,) Lemon Juice (Vitamin C), Cloves ( Antiseptic), and Cinnamon (Warming) in warm water before bed.

Don't know if this will help at all.

Hope you get over it soon it is a nuisance at night if it disturbs your sleep.

Thank you.. I will try John with the Honey, lemon juice, cloves and Cinnamon. It actually sounds very nice... I will try it myself next time I have a cough too. :-)

I have had WG for over 13 years and like John when I get a cough it takes many weeks if not months to go. Dr Jayne at Addenbrookes always does a chest x ray if it hasn't gone after about 8 weeks just to check my chest is clear. Last summer I had a cough from the end of September till Febuary !! I was also advised to take Ciprofloxacin at the first sign of a chest infection. I find a vaporizer in the bedroom helps ( available from Boots ) helps with a dry cough.

Hope Johns cough easies.

I have had the cough lasting weeks or months, at different times over the last 4 years, I also had it for 3 years on the run up to vasculitis, weeks or months at a time.

I found breathing "into" a bottle of Vic for a couple of minutes could give me relief for 2 or 3 hours at a time.

The last 2 episodes, have been stopped in there tracks by antibiotics, hope this helps

I had a awful chest infection in early December and couldn t shake it off then at end of January got ill with an even worse chest infection. had my bloods checked and a CXR to check I wasn t having a relapse. Ended up having 3 weeks off work and 2 lots of antibiotics but took weeks to recover with a niggly cough at night. Honey worked for me. WG 12 yrs now

Honey seems to be very popular to use at night. We will try it. Thank you :-)
