Bronchitis

I have been coughing on and off for about a month, a few days ago I started feeling really ill. I phoned the surgery and was given an appointment with a nurse practitioner who confirmed it was bronchitis and not a chest infection and gave a prescription for a salbutamol inhaler.

Should I be concerned? Nobody at the surgery knows about my condition { GPA } and I haven’t been seen by a rheumatologist who knows about it eith.

I have a severely weakened immune system, should I be concerned? Do I need to contact the immunologist at Addenbrokes?

I would gratefully appreciate any advice. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Valwood my advice would be to go to Adenbrokes because everything will shut down on Friday for 10 days at that level. It may be worth going back to the Practice and speak to. GP about your concerns no disrespect to Nurses but how much they understand about GPA is debatable. Obviously antibiotics and antivirals are not much good but there may be something they can try and at least you are on their radar. Nick.

Yes I would definitely check with addenbrookes. I have Bronchiectasis caused, I’m told, partly by vasculitis and partly because of the frequent chest infections that I was getting. There’s a reason why a respiratory doctor works in the vasculitis clinic at addenbrookes. You will need a CT scan to check for Bronchiectasis. There’s a lot of people with vasculitis that develop bronchiectasis. Good luck.

For what it’s worth, my GPA consultants reckon anything that could be an infection needs treating by them rather than a GP if you are on meds as the doses etc need to be tailored and a GP cannot do this adequately, so definitely refer to your consultant team and not a GP, hope they get you fixed soon, take care.
